Derek Quinn, on radio lancs, mentioned some local connections in the Port Vale squad:

Tom Sang is the son of Neil Sang who apparently played for us in the 90s

Ryan Croasdale is from Lancaster and attended Ripley. Apparently his dad was a very good runner on the local circuit

Ryan's dad wasn't just a good local runner, but he was a superb distance runner at county, area, national and international level. He won numerous gold medals as part of the all conquering Bingley harriers running team of the 1990s and 2000s. Bingley won multiple national titles at cross country and road running team events and Ryan's dad was an ever present in those teams. He is also a top bloke too.
I also think he represented GB at the winter Olympics at cross country skiing , late eighties possibly.

Seem to remember Ryan having an unsuccessful trial for the shrimps pre-season a few years ago

It's funny, when I heard "Sang", I thought of Neil and what an unusual name. Never occurred to me that it was his son!

Neil Sang is a football agent and he brought Paul Mullin to the club

You are correct about Ryan having a trial with us, it was during Jimbos reign, and it was Michael Rose who got the nod.

Neil Sang played for us in the inaugral Conference season of 1995/96.

Showing my advancing years here but I ALSO remember Neil's brother, Russell, playing for the club in the 1988/89 season.

Well, at least until he was substituted during one match at Christie..... he got in his car, stormed away, and was never ever seen again.
