Premier League clubs turn down funding to L1 & L2

Premier League clubs turn down funding to L1 & L2

Postby Seasider9601 » Fri Mar 15, 2024 8:24 am

Clubs in EFL1 and EFL2 will not be getting the money that would have filtered down the pyramid as the Premier League refuses to fund it.

The 10 clubs who voted no were:

Arsenal
Aston Villa
Bournemouth
Chelsea
Crystal Palace
Liverpool
Nottingham Forest
Tottenham
West Ham
Wolves

Disgraceful. The game's gone.

The game in this country went a long time ago

Very shocked that Bournemouth voted NO as it's not that long ago they were rock bottom and nearly out of business

How times have changed

Oh well greed is greed it will all come crashing down. Eventually some of the ten will be left behind (patsy’s). The real greedy ones will one day leave the Premiership one day for the European League

The players in League 1&2 will have to leave football or drastically reduce their wages and will probably end up semi-pro.

Without the money from the Premiership Clubs like Morecambe FC will probably not survive in their current model of operation's.

Those that have bought into the top clubs just don’t care about us, full blooming stop.

Good point that John and I'd forgotten they were only in L2 with us back in 2009 and we beat them 5-0 at Christie Park.

Hopefully what goes around comes around.

Just to play Devil's Advocate...

The Premier League is a business and as such will look after their own interests first and foremost. You wouldn't expect Asda to bail out your local corner shop, no they would watch it go under and take over the empty building. And I know football and supermarkets are very different things, although they are all businesses.

Yes the Premier League has got too big and is strangling football below them. However we the people are just as much to blame. Paying through the nose to watch them on the TV, buying the kits and god knows what else.

Why do people travel miles to watch a club like Liverpool or Man City, when they will have a club much more local to them? If everyone supported their local side everything would balance off and teams would level up accordingly.

So whilst yes the Premier League has a number of questions to answer so do the footballing fans of this country and around the world.

Interesting to see that 6 of the 7 Northern clubs did not vote 'no'.
Perhaps they appreciate the roots of the game, but probably some other reason.

As has been said, Bournemouth have surprised everyone with that vote, but then they are owned by more Yanks, who only want profit and return on their investment. Wrexham come in for lots of criticism but the Hollywood guys are not in it for money but the glory and kick of making something and affecting the town positively. Spending 20 million already it’s a good job!! :D

At least 6 of those teams in the end will be left behind, as a life long WHU fan, shameful greedy so & so’s. Idiots, they go on about the roots of the game, they have forgotten, kill the roots kill the roots of the tree and you will not bare fruits.

Looking at the track record of how other Government appointed Independent Regulators have performed, I wouldn't get over excited.
