Reading points deduction.

Reading points deduction.

In the EFL judgement against Reading FC on 27/02/2024, Reading were given a 2 point deduction. It was 4 points but it was reduced to 2, with 2 suspended. The owner was fined £100K. (That is my understanding! It’s on the EFL decisions and judgements page of their website).

Of course our charges are different than Readings, but the striking similarity is the alleged roll of the owner.

At the fans forum it was said that the Club believe they have a very strong defence against the charges and Morecambe FC are hopeful they can be successful, it was stated that the hearing was around mid March.

The important part of the Reading ruling for me was this;

“The EFL noted that in a benefactor model, such as Reading FC, you can separate the owner from the Club
to target the individual, but you cannot separate the Club from the owner entirely when it comes to the actions of the Club due to the owner, therefore sanctions are appropriate”

So the actions of the Club, in our case will be of importance. Can we successfully separate the Club from the owner? Proving that what happened was totally out of the control of the Club?
