Current run of form

I was sat thinking that with 12 games left (for us) and us being in a period of probably our best form since we joined the league, how does our current form stack up against those teams that are looking at promotion. SO here it is.

Pos. Team W D L F A GD Pts.
1 Brentford 7 2 1 16 5 11 24
2 Wycombe 3 4 3 7 7 0 13
3 Bury 7 2 1 15 8 7 24
4 Bradford 5 2 3 16 11 5 17
5 Rochdale 6 1 3 18 10 8 19
6 Exeter City 5 3 2 17 10 7 18
7 Gillingham 4 2 4 12 12 0 14
8 Shewsbury 4 2 4 11 14 -3 14
9 Dag & Red 1 4 5 7 14 -7 7
10 Morecambe 5 4 1 15 7 8 19
11 Chesterfield 5 2 3 13 12 1 17
12 Darlington 5 1 4 11 8 3 16
13 Lincoln City 3 5 2 16 16 0 14

Even though we are still 10 points behind I personally think we have a great chance of making the play-offs, especially as we have still to play 5 teams that are in the mix with us. What I am wondering though is how long does everybody else think we can continue our run and, more importantly, if the chance presented itself would you want us to get promoted?

(PS. F.A.O. simply ned - I already know that you think we are going to loose our next 12 games and get relegated along with Chesterfield so feel free not to post anything on this thread!)

Excellent run but play-offs may be that step too far.

No pressure on us however.

What position were we in at this time of the season in our promo season?

An excellent question but one far beyond my range of statistical ability I fear.

If we beat Bury, we could be in a position to challenge for the play offs. But actual promotion is a step too far - I think we'd go straight back down and gates would drop even further if we were losing week in week out.

But anyway, at the start of the season, I predicted we'd finish 14th. I stick by what I said then - a top half finish would be beyond expectations.

I don't see us having a great chance of reaching the play offs. We have a chance but realistically I think it's asking just that bit too much. You'd be looking at getting at least 70 points and that would mean winning 8 of our last 11 games - That would be a heck of a run for any team in the league.

All we can do is keep trying to win every game and see what happens.

I'm not sure the club or team is ready for League 1. Having said that, if the chance presents itself, you have to go for it.

We do have a great chance of a top half finish and that would be better than most of us could have expected a few weeks ago.

I think the play offs will be just out of reach, even if one of the current top teams falter, there are others who are better placed than us to take advantage. We'd need four teams to slip up and us continue with this great form.

The interesting thing is how close the top of the table is, with only two points seperating the last automatic promotion and the last play off spot. Three points (and a game in hand) between automatic promotion and missing out altogether!

Good question. In short: no.

I would. Every time.

Promotion brings more investment, more sponsorship, more fans, more revenue, more players (to strengthen) and a whole new experience.

We would survive. Mark & Sammy would see to that.

If we dont want promotion why are we bothering?

I dont think it will happen, but you must admit that now play offs are a possibility again, it is much more exciting. I want to see how far we can go. If we dont make it, fair enough we tried our best. But I want to go as far as we can. 8-)

Completely agree Mark.

We can't pick an choose when we get promoted.

And whilst i agree that we will fall short....................................You never know.

First stay safe, then top half, then top 10/beating last seasons points total, then who knows?

UP THE SHRIMPS!!

i think promotion cud backrupt us. too much too soon could really damage the club long term. personally i would rather wait till we at least had the new stadium.

but then again....

a) Rather interestingly...

or

b) Rather sadly...

I've just put together a spreadsheet that looked at the form guide posted earlier, works out 'points per game' and uses that figure for the remaining games of the season. If the form remains exactly as it is, the final table would look like this...

Brentford____________92
Exeter_______________84
Wycombe____________80

Bury_________________77
Gillingham___________77
Bradford_____________76
Morecambe__________73

Shrewsbury__________73
Rochdale____________71
Chesterfield_________71
Rotherham__________62
Lincoln City_________61
Darlington__________59
Barnet______________55
Dag & Red__________52
Macclesfield________52
Notts County_______52
Aldershot__________49
Port Vale___________46
Bournemouth______43
Accrington Stanley_36
Grimsby___________32
Chester____________30
Luton______________26

Obviously form will change but as a guide, if we can keep plugging away we are going to be very close at the end of the season. Oh, and Chester are doomed!

The problem is from looking at the results yesterday those team above us in the playoff places don't drop to many points and we would need a few of them to have a couple of bad runs.

We have a game in hand on daggers to go 9th but any further up is all going to depends on a couple of clubs dropping a lot of points.

Based upon my sadly interesting table, it would have to be at Wembley...

The key factor will be how we respond when this run comes to an end, if we can bounce back after a defeat and start another run going then who knows.

As it stands at the moment it still seems unlikely with a ten point gap to a play off place and the three teams directly below us with games in hand, lets just take it one game at a time and not put to much pressure on ourselves.

it's nice looking up the table rather than down, but i don't think we're even head of the 'chasing pack' yet, a win tomorrow would send a strong message out though, will be a toughy!

I agree, I think it will be a tough game, even if Bury aren't firing on all cylinders, but earlier in the season, whilst I thought we should finish mid-table, I didn't think we'd only be two points behind D&R, after their impressive start. Shrewsbury still find it hard to win away and at least with all our injury problems, the rest of the lads have really got stuck in and come up with the goods.Well done to all of them ;) :P
