I'd have him back, but also would not be too disappointed if we missed out on him.

IMO he drifts in and out of games, is poor defensively, and can give the ball away cheaply. He did improve under Adams - but I would not say that you can conclude he stands out at this level, or is one of the divisions better players - or even in our team now that we have Ash Hunter and Jake Taylor. He is good at taking set pieces, and does have good potential. I do not see him being of any use to Burnley in the Championship.

Adam might be lining up against us next Saturday if the Shrews get their way, but hopefully not

For me Ash is the better dead ball specialist only worry for me is that Ash's concentration could be better and quickly gets frustrated as we saw v Carlisle. Seems to have been given a free role by DA...

Phillips easily has the quality to play in L1, and I reckon he can be a Championship player. Despite not ever really being in sparkling form last season and only starting 27 games, he still managed six goals and eight assists in a side that, for a lot of the season, wasn't creating very much.

The issue is he can't play in L1/Champ like he did in L2, needs to fit better into team structures and offer a bit more in his all round game against higher quality opposition. In fairness to SR, I think that's something he was trying to drill into Phillips.

Centre back and I think defensive midfield could do with some more personnel in first, but if the opportunity came up to get Phillips back in on top of that then I'd be very happy. He's a player who has the quality to make a difference and take some creative burden. That said, I wouldn't be too gutted if he went somewhere else, particularly as other positions need sorting first. He may well be looking to move his career on a bit and go somewhere different too.

id have Philips back.

Jake Taylor as impressed me most in the pre season games i've seen, Jake looks like the complete midfield player who could play defensive midfield with Fane quite easily. so that would free up the number 10 role for Philips.

To me, that's a contradiction. To a large extent, the reason we weren't creating very much, is because our creative midfield weren't creating very much! Considering at least one (can't remember if it was more) of his goals being a penalty, and he was on the majority of direct & creative free-kicks & corners, I'd have expected a better return of goals and assists.

If he came back, he'd offer something more to the squad, but equally, if he goes somewhere else, I wouldn't be too upset. I'd rather a Bedeau update that said he was coming to us!

His set pieces often left a bit to be desired, either bang on the money or straight out for a goal kick, rarely anywhere in between.

I get why it could be construed as a contradiction, but I think it's an oversimplification to put the teams lack of creativity down to Phillips. Imo the main reasons were a bunch of new players simultaneously struggling to gel and to take on board a lot of tactical instruction from SR, as well as a defence that couldn't be relied upon to stand up for itself so had the whole team looking over their shoulder. Also not helpful that Wildig was injured a lot and McCalmont wasn't really taking any creative burden. We became far more creative once Bedeau and Carson came in and sorted the defence. Think their distribution and Bedeau's mobility was helpful too.

Under those circumstances as well as not being consistently in the starting line up and never hitting any really notable patches of form, I think 14 G/A is a pretty damn good return.

I do agree though that right now if I had the choice of Phillips or Bedeau, it would definitely be Bedeau given where our squad is lacking at the moment!

Toums, Phillips and Wildig were our best midfield last term I'd hate to lose all three !

For me it was a massive mistake in letting Toums go. His technical ability and his calmness will be sadly missed as on the evidence to date the newbies in midfield are not a patch on Toums.

As for Phillips I'm with Freez on that one.

On another matter I noticed that Simon our Physio was absent on Saturday. Hope that was due to illness and nothing more serious.

Some speculation that a new player was training today. A Centre midfielder if you look on the Morecambe Official Twitter.

I was there and didn't notice who he was , maybe someone else may.

Philips has gone. He abandoned us at the last minute of a transfer window. Oh sorry, that was last time. This time he simply wasn’t good enough or consistent enough. His set pieces were abysmal, corner routines shocking, and his general commitment and energy sorely lacking. Can’t believe some people saying they’d have him back. Yes, there was talent there but so infrequent we were carrying him. Gone. Move on.

Agree with Posh on this one, he was so frustrating to watch last season. The talent is there, no doubt about it, but to inconsistent and wasteful for my liking. From what I have seen of Ash Hunter so far, his set piece delivery is miles better.

You’ve had a shocker here. Everyone talks about Cole’s contributions (for obvious reasons!) but what people forget is that without Phillips and Arthur, there would’ve been no meaningful contribution from any other player in the squad. Personally I wouldn’t take him back just because our midfield options now seem good enough (I’d prioritise a CB over another CM) and there’s a risk of him becoming stagnant if he joins for his FOURTH loan spell (highly doubt we’d be able to buy him!).

Posh is right. Particularly under Robbo, this guy was hopeless - and he gave the impression that he wasn't bothered either. The equaliser he was responsible for for Burton at the Pirelli said it all: he was standing on the goal line but moved out of the way as a low corner went directly into the net in front of him. "Wot - me?" he said to his dismayed - nay, gob-smacked - team-mates. Yes - you Adam. Hope he doesn't come back, personally. Bedeau every time for me. Carlos better still...

I think the signings of Ash Hunter , Jake Taylor and Weir suggest we won't try and loan Phillips. We look a lot more creative in midfield now.

Would love to see Bedeau back though.

On the bench tonight for Burnley. Been speaking to a dual supporter of the shrimps and Burnley today - in turn he knows Adam's dad as Garstang based .... He's been promised a chance to impress till January by all accounts!

Signed for Barnsley on a three year deal and for a fee ... Slight shock but explains why he wasn't coming back! Pleased for him.
