Vadine Oliver

Vadine Oliver

IF Cole moves on then I'd have no problems in Vadine making a return to the Mazuma.

DA's style of using wide men to deliver into the box would be ideal for Vadine as he was hardly ever used properly for me but did show that if he got the service then he was a useful player. Far removed from Cole but as effective as a link man up front. BUT it all depends on the service he gets form the wings and with DA appearing to favour 2 wide men then he could be a useful addition to the new squad currently being assembled by DA.

Others will no doubt disagree..... :?: :?: :?:

He's 31 when the season kicks off.

I'm not against signing him, but we've got our policy right now. We don't want plays who want to be at Morecambe, if that makes sense.

We want players that want to come in for 2/3 seasons and move on to better things. For me Vadaine would be excellent for a Northern League 2 squad after experience.

I think he means he would rather us go for a young ambitious player who we can then sell on.

I like Oliver but not sure he really fits the same profile as Stockton, despite nominally being a target man. Oliver's more about winning flick-ons and aerial balls etc whereas Stockton is better with the ball into his feet/torso and holding it up. Suits being a loan frontman which Adams tends to prefer playing with, whereas Oliver's more productive performances for us were with Collins up top with him before having a great season with Northampton in a 3-5-2, often partnered with Callum Morton.

That said, he could well have worked on his hold-up play a bit more over the past couple of years as I think he's played fairly regularly as a lone frontman for Gillingham.

I would like to think that DA has a better striker than Vadine lined up if/when Cole moves on.

I think he must have if he is wanting to let Jonah Ayunga go as he looked a decent striker at times and with Derek's coaching maybe he could have blossomed like some others.

I think it would be a massive step backwards to sign Vadaine Oliver.

Always put in a shift but a poor finisher and wouldn’t fit in with our style of play - hoofing it up in the air towards a big strikers head isn’t how we play anymore (thankfully).

I know he did well at Gillingham but I’ve always been surprised at how many people want to see the return of a striker who played nearly every game for us for two whole seasons and produced hardly any goals or assists.

Big V had a torrid time here but did show glimpses of quality. He played in an awful team and an awfuly negative system. The fans got on his back and he became a joke on the terraces. I agree that it would be a backward step but we didn't see the lad anywhere near his best.
