Except for cases of mistaken identity, it's not possible to rescind cautions. That's what we've been told in our training, anyway :P

I think that's right. As far as I'm aware it's not possible to either appeal or ask for a yellow to be rescinded. It is allowed for the referee not to include the booking in his report. If it isn't in the report as far as the rules are concerned it didn't happen. It's pretty rare though. fingers crossed.

I believe you can only appeal against a straight red card, not even if it's two yellow cards followed by red, either.

That's correct, because they are two separate cautions. However, if the referee deems a second cautionable offense serious enough, a straight red can follow a previous caution in which case an appeal can be lodged.

Well known referee Andy D'Urso was the man in the middle and his most notable moment was to strangely book Garry Hunter for kicking a second ball off the pitch.

And to be fair to the ref, there is a world of difference between knocking the ball in to touch and hammering it through a ruck of players who were getting on with the game!    Ungentlemanly Conduct I would think. And if Gary hadn't meant to break up their attack by doing that then his kicking is about as unpredictable as mine! Now should the game have been stopped for having a second ball on the pitch? That's a different question...

Only if the referee deems the second ball to be interfering with play. If it isn't then it's removed at the next break in play.

The booking was bizarre to say the least. We were clearing our lines well and our defenders seemed to be having a competition as to who could kick the ball the furthest out of the ground as they were very slow retrieving the ball - even Barry had to jump over the boards behind his goal and fetch the ball himself at one point :o Gary got booked just after a replacement ball had been put in play then suddenly the original one appeared from over the stand and landed at his feet - what on earth is one suppost to do? I am not sure that Mr. Durso realised there were 2 balls on the pitch? We were shouting very loudly at the liner who was shaking his head but saw exactly what happened.

Although to be fair to the linesman he did us a big favour in not giving Rene offside in the run up to Waynes goal. He must have been 2 yards off

The ball had been on the pitch and stationary for a good few seconds when Gary went up to it a cracked it through the ruck of players. It was hardly a side footed tap towards the dug out was it? If the comment from Marky saying that play is only stopped if the ball is interfering with play is correct (and I have no reason to suspect it isn't) then it was a definite booking because Gary deliberately used it to stop the game. He could have either left it or side footed it off the pitch with ease.

I was almost dead in line with Twissy when he crossed the ball and I thought Howe was on side. In fact no one around me could work out what Aldershot were appealing for.

They were certainly getting upset with the linesman I'm surprised he got out alive! He was often not up with play at all although having looked at the replay on tv Dave Artell was in his own half when he passed the ball to Twissy so I would have needed 3 heads to get the decision right  Who cares anyway - we scored! :D

Bring on Grimsby let's batter 'em 8-) Just hope that M62 is'nt packed at tea time

Just because "most people in press box said the same" doesn't make it the wrong decision!!!

So why shouldn't it have been a booking, using the laws of the game to justify your decision, rather than it simply being 'our lad' and an 'odd situation'?

If the ball wasn't interfering with play, therefore the correct decision is to carry on playing, then Gary deliberately makes the ball 'interfere with play' causing the game to stop, then that is 'ungentlemanly conduct'. I'm happy to accept that Gary didn't realise that he was causing an offence because it was unusual, but he certainly kicked the ball towards the players deliberately.

Now tell me which bit of my interpretation is wrong?

You're not wrong, Keith. We've been told in our traning that we should caution players who did what Hunter appears to have done. If an assessor was present, D'Urso would have had no option, either.
