One to watch?

One to watch?

Postby Christies Child » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:48 pm

Just listening to the Non League Hour on Radio Lancs (old habits die hard  ) and the panel are raving about Georgie Donnelly the Skelmersdale centre forward who has scored 33 goals so far this season.

Ex Everton youth, at 19 it sounds as though he could be one to watch for the future. By all accounts he's keen to be given a crack at Football league.

JC has just signed his striking partner, although that could have been with influence from Assistant Manager Jimmy Bell who is related to the player.

Just heard 10 mins of it in the car Stimmo and Tony Hesketh comdey radio live from a reserve game:lol:

The bit I heard it sounded like Skem have a bit of a conveyer belt of talent there Stimmo was saying just when you think there good players have moved on to bigger things they produce a couple more.

Skelmersdale FC have today rejected an offer for this man from Plymouth Argyle :o Sent them back to reconsider although the offer was close to their own valuation :!: Could be on his way up higher than what you think :!: Had a trial with them earlier this month

.....or at the very least ask him to come on trial.

In my opinion it's youth players who have had experience at bigger clubs who we need to be looking at for the long term. Mark is a brilliant coach who I'm sure would relish working and developing such players.

Looks as though Southport are about to sign Donnelly....with the money that they may have got from us for Duffy????

Could it be that in 12 months our Southport 'Academy' provides yet another player for us??????

Personally I'd like Sammy to have a look at the guy....and possibly give him a trial????

:) :) :)

what money from us I thought Mark Duffys deal was only a loan for the rest of this season with an option to buy him at the end of it

I think that's right.

But to get them to allow him to come to us on loan now, when they could have said 'no' as he's still contracted to them, will have taken a payment, possibly not paid to them until the end of the season, because we can't 'buy' players outside the transfer window.

If we hadn't done that we'd have risked him going somewhere else in a free-for-all when he's out of contract.

He looked quick and very aware of what was going on around him in the brief glimpse we had at Grimsby, spotted a pass well and linked with team-mates.

I'd still use him off the bench for now but, potentially, looks a good 'secret weapon'.
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

I interpreted it as, we've signed an agreement to guy him at the next available time, so he is 'our' player, whether he performs well enough or not.

I thought I read a while back before he cam to us on loan that we had signed him on a pre contract so he is our player from July anyway.

Can't be bad the lad as our 'Merseyside Academy Manager' has made a bid for him.

What's the betting that in 12 months we make a bid........that's assuming that we aren't already on the case. Mark L is already aware of the guy.

Skem are one of the better teams we've played this season in terms of technical ability.

I wouldn't mind a few of their players signing for us.

Sorry to correct my antiopdean friend's five letter post but his name is Steve Heighway. Easy to get confused bearing in mind John Barnes's nickname of Tarmac (the black Heighway).

He also wasn't from Skem but from Dublin and grew up in Sheffield. When he was studying at Warwick (hence his nickname Big Bamber - Brian Hall was Little Bamber) he was spotted while playing part-time for Skelmersdale United by Bill Shankly.

The only other famous ex-Skem player I can remember is Peter Withe.
