RIP Dickie Danson

RIP Dickie Danson

Postby RedRedWine » Tue Mar 23, 2021 3:45 pm

As some people may have seen on social media, there has been some very sad news that Tricky Dickie Danson has passed away.

Danson replaced George Norris as second team manager in 1991 having previously managed Lancaster City. Over the following 30 years at Morecambe FC Dickie would undertake various roles at the club. He was the Assistant Manager to Player Manager Jim Harvey when the team gained promotion in 1995 to the conference, and was subsequently heavily involved with the clubs youth development programme that produced so many great players in the side that won promotion to the EFL. Latterly he was engaged in implementing the clubs EPPP academy programme/structures before becoming chief scout and matchday greeter. Condolences to all of his family, and many friends

Hopefully the club can appropriately commemorate Dickies contribution to the Shrimps. I think it would be fitting if they named the whole academy programme after him given the impact he has had on it. An incredible servant to Morecambe FC, and football locally.

Very sad news. Dickie is up there with the likes of Clarrie and Ken Parker as a genuine Shrimps legend. RIP Dickie and condolences to his family.

RIP Dickie.

Always prepared to talk football and in particular MFC,

Will seem very strange not seeing his friendly smile around the stadium.

I'm sure that is in hand.

Some really great tributes to Dickie on facebook and Twitter from the likes of Danny Carlton, Aaron McGowan and Jonathan Smith.... and there will be many more I'm sure.

As part of their condolences, Lancaster City wrote about Dickie:

“He’s the only man who came to Giant Axe in a Morecambe jacket and got away with it”

Pictured above is the 1994/95 side that won promotion to the Conference - apologies for the poor quality, I took the photo from a book. Dickie (assistant manager) is pictured in the front row towards the middle with hand in the air.

Sadly Dickie joins Paul Comstive, Dulla and Edgie from that photo. That was a great team to grow up supporting.

So how did that work out then?

RIP Dickie, a true legend who will be sorely missed by all.

Have the club got any plans to remember him on Saturday's game, perhaps by way of a minute's silence or with black armbands?

RIP Dickie, sadly missed. One of the few non playing staff over the years who had his own terrace song! Along the lines of ‘oh you tricky Dickie Danson, tricky Dickie Danson we love you and our tricky Dickie Danson, tricky Dickie Danson loves us too’ To the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tune and sung mainly by Freez and his friends. :D
