That brings back so many happy memories. I was 15 at the time and one of the sports teachers at Morecambe High, Mr Gibson (Gibby) drove about a dozen or so of us down there overnight in the school minibus, arriving at Wembley at 6 in the morning. My first visit and it looked awesome. Off into London City Centre after that for a look around and back to Wembley for the game and a fine win for the under dogs against the Southern League Champions Dartford. ( No Conference in those days just Southern and Northern Premier League ). Got home about midnight having been awake for 40 hours. Never since have I been as tired and happy at the same time!

Any other old buggers on here remember the day?

Fair play to whoever put that on YouTube, but it needs to be mentioned that the footage was shot by my good friend Mike Ellis and not the claret! ;)

As the oldest (?) bugger on here, I remember the day as if was yesterday.

Only beaten by our latest visit.....and of course the birth of my daughter.

Each day will live me forever.

Happy memories. :D :D :D

I was the same age. My mum had knitted me a scarf especially for the game (it came to Wembley in the Play Off Final as well!)

We played on the break throughout the game and hit them with those two quick goals. Luckily when they scored, there was virtually no time left.

I think our coach driver had been drinking or something because he spent most of the journey back driving along the hard shoulder.

Happy days!

I've still got my programme from the day, a bargain at 10p. Cant remember too much about the game, didnt we go two up then they pulled one back near the end. I do remember there was a bit of a scrap after the lap of honour when some of the Dartford fans came round to our end.

Me and my mate went down on the train and i remember the tube ride back to Euston. We were the only Morecambe fans on it surrounded by Dartford fans singing 'knees up mother brown'. Needless to say i had my scarf stuffed down the front of my jacket out of sight

A bit of a scrap is an understatement. It was round about the time that trouble at matches was becoming a regular occurence. A large number of East Londoners didn't like being beat and suddenly appeared behind us on our terrace, just as we were celebrating the win. It was like the siege of Mafeking for several minutes but fortunately the combined force of Lancaster and Morecambes hooligans fought off the attackers. It was then bedlam for several minutes with mounted police galloping through the walkways under the stand breaking up rival groups still fighting. Thank God by the next time we appeared at Wembley things had gone full circle and you could concentrate on the football rather than worrying about your personal safety all day!
