I was 15 at the time and one of the sports teachers at Morecambe High, Mr Gibson (Gibby) drove about a dozen or so of us down there overnight in the school minibus, arriving at Wembley at 6 in the morning. My first visit and it looked awesome. Off into London City Centre after that for a look around and back to Wembley for the game and a fine win for the under dogs against the Southern League Champions Dartford. ( No Conference in those days just Southern and Northern Premier League ). Got home about midnight having been awake for 40 hours. Never since have I been as tired and happy at the same time!
Any other old buggers on here remember the day?
I was the same age. My mum had knitted me a scarf especially for the game (it came to Wembley in the Play Off Final as well!)
We played on the break throughout the game and hit them with those two quick goals. Luckily when they scored, there was virtually no time left.
I think our coach driver had been drinking or something because he spent most of the journey back driving along the hard shoulder.
Happy days!
