O/T Travel insurance

I would suggest that anybody with travel insurance for a holiday this summer contacts their insurance company to see what their policy says about the cancellation of holidays due to the virus.

I have contacted my insurance company StaySure who have suggested that any policy bought after midnight on the 13 March that included Travel Disruption is no longer valid.

They have informed me that my policy will NOT pay out BUT as I bought our policy on the 20 February it will still be valid BUT only because I have checked the wording on the policy and have challenged them that according to their own statement that our policy is still valid despite being told that it does not.

I now await their reply.

Suggest that everybody checks their travel policy and in particular the Travel Disruption sections.

Ive had the same email with the same date from a different company, i presume they will have got together and all saying the same thing

If Staysure are not prepared to honour what they have publicly stated on line then they are in for a fight with me..... :twisted:

This is typical of Holiday Insurance companies who will squirm out of pay backs whenever they can.

I took out an annual travel insurance policy with Insurefor.com on 12 March, effective from 13th March. Their website says cover ref Coronavirus issues will not be valid after 17th March.

So maybe the cutoff date varies a bit between insurers.

Not necessarily got together, some companies have multiple brands targeting different audiences such as ESure and Sheilas Wheels, one & the same.

Our annual travel insurance is through Nationwide, got an email yesterday saying that any bookings made after 18th March would not cover cancellation due to the virus

Unless one purchased what insurance companies call Travel Disruption Extension to the policy at the time of purchase and before 11 March then you are stuffed about claiming any money for travel disruption.

Sounds to me as though a lot of people are going to be out of pocket.....big style.

I'm just hoping our Tour company Riviera Travel will honour their money back email but I'm not confident.

I *should* be in the Dominican Republic right now, instead, I've done a full circle, off IoM, missed the Plymouth game, and returned here a few days later!

We were due to stay at Premier Inn, Heald Green (Manchester Airport) the night before we flew.
16 nights car parking at the airport.
Then United Airways to Newark, New Jersey.
Overnight at The Marriott Hotel at the airport.
Fly United to Puerto Plata the following day.

United Airways emailed me to say that if I needed to cancel, even though it was a none refundable fare, I'd receive my money back. That was before I even contacted them, so full marks to United!

Premier Inn have introduced a new policy, whereby when I re-book a room, I then email both the old & new booking references and they will refund the cost of the original room.

Marriott & Manchester Airport Parking haven't bothered to respond. I'm giving them a few more days as I'm sure they are busy & chaotic, but while United & Premier Inn have gone up in my estimation, Marriott have gone down & Manchester Airport, I knew were bloody awful already, so no surprise whatsoever.

Keith, I think you need to download the Manchester airport parking app, go to 'Manage my booking' and you get the option to cancel your parking less a £7.50 admin fee. At least that's what my daughter said, she did it for me. We were booked in the Meet and Greet parking but I think any official parking would be the same

We were booked in the Airport Premier Inn (Runger Lane) the night before our flight to Punta Cana, I got the email from Premier Inn, I've not done anything yet but can't I just cancel and get a refund or do you have to get the amount knocked off your next booking

Slightly off topic, anyone tried to get a refund from Avanti trains. We were going to London next week for a couple of days and taking in a show, for some reason my wife doesn't fancy going now.

Hotel is happy to re schedule, show is now cancelled so we are getting a refund, not holding out much hope with our Advance tickets from Avanti

Forget the Avanti question thanks, looks like because they are Advance tickets we won't get a refund but will be able to re schedule

Socialism isn't about everyone having sackcloth & ashes, it is about people having fair and reasonable opportunities in life.

We were cancelled the day before we were due to go to Manchester, so too late to cancel officially. Now the parking has been & gone, it will presumably be too late for the app?

There are direct flights to Punta Cana but for the north coast Dominican Republic, we have to fly via USA or Canada (there were ten flights a week from the UK to Puerto Plata when we first started going there, now there are two flights there from the whole of Europe). Our 'plan B' for travel disruption was, if we got there before the travel ban to the USA was to fly back via Canada or get to Punta Cana for a flight. Plan 'A' was to just stay put until it all blows over! Sadly, Trump's announcement was two days too early :cry: :cry: :cry:

Then we only just made it back to the Isle of Man before it went in to lock down too! We managed to get on the last ferry back before 14 day quarantine was imposed. Too late anyway, our first case diagnosed yesterday, someone who returned from Spain three days before the quarantine order came in, so it will be everywhere by now.
