Morecambe FC memories thread

Was recalling last night a fantastic 5-1 win over Macclesfield at Christie Park in March 1986 - my first season of supporting Morecambe that 1985/86 season.

What a win that was....!!!!!!!!!!

We finished third in the Multipart League that season and you could predict the team every week because it hardly ever changed.

"Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Christie Park. Your Morecambe team is:
1 Peter McDonnell
2 Graham Jones
3 Keith Kennedy
4 Steve Brookes
5 Kenny Gordon
6 Dave Woodburn
7 Jimmy Thornton
8 Peter Sayer
9 Keith Galley
10 Graham Gill
11 Vaughn Williams
And this afternoons substitute is Tibor Szabo"

Only one sub in those days. That team remained pretty much static all season line up wise.

Great days, great memories.

Jon Balm and Dave Large featured a lot though, Thornton was sidelined after Xmas and didn’t play that much, it tended to be Gilly unfortunately alongside Tibor, inexplicably with Gall as sub!!

And of course not forgetting that Steve Brookes broke his elbow which ended his career.

This picture shows the old floodlights still in situ and the dugouts very shortly after they were extended from 2 separate ones to be "all in one".

Note the floodlights on the Main Stand roof too which were never replaced when the new floodlights were erected in 1993.

I hope Brian S doesn't mind, but I thought his photo album was worthy of a post in here then it can be kept at hand.

Absolutely love these.......

Those "new" crest/club badge design boards were interesting.

Found this photo on Twitter last night. Bulldozers just moved in on far right hand side.

Cup final day in the early 90’s, three of us designed and painted that wall with the letters.
Si and Bart.
Si is a Bradford fan who lived local, watched us as the Bantams climbed the divisions.
Bizarrely, went back to watching them as they tumbled back down again!!

What you could have had if certain people had their way

A couple of the boards show the key parts of Morecambe’s badges and crests over the years - the nobby boat, the shrimp (as it was used), red rose etc. There were some more created such as the sunset but they just didn’t work. You can see how much the shrimp changed.

The first memorable match at The Globe under Derek Adams! Dire first half, management changes for the second half and an amazing 45 minutes and a fantastic winning goal! :D

A few more programmes between Morecambe and Wigan if you scroll further down the page.
A Morecambe team with many of the Wembley legends, a couple with '7 A. Taylor' and one from 72-73
with '13 C. Lea'.
