O/T..The Bay.

Postby Phoenix Shrimp 2017 » Wed Mar 20, 2019 8:50 pm

Starting on ITV national at 9.00pm this evening, major new crime drama series based in and around Morecambe. Episode one of six. Well they do say no publicity is bad publicity!

This even got major publicity on rival channel BBC Look North so may be well worth a look. Starting in 10 mins.

We should cash in on it by renaming our ground "THE CAVENDISH STADIUM"

Disappointed to miss it, wife said it was good. She said it's available on 'catch up'.

Mrs A & I saw them filming last year as we were walking back to the car after a game. We're recording the whole series then we'll 'box-set binge' on it, assuming it's any good.

Bit of an incredulous start to the story, but the plot and drama began to thicken and weave. First impression is it's not as well scripted as first series of 'Shetland' on BBC we've just watched, but quite a few good shots of the town and bay. One bit of lack of continuity was when a car travelling one way on the prom was inexplicably travelling in the opposite direction during the same conversation  It would be good to skip all the adverts!!

Watched with interest to see if any of the establishments on the prom appeared.

Did notice that in one dialogue scene that the tide appeared to be out and in the next it was in as the close up shots changed from speaker to speaker.

Hoping beyond hope that at some stage we get a view of The Globe but doubt it.

Being a man of leisure thesedays and heading off down the prom daily, I got to see alot of the filming.
One day they closed off pedder street whilst using the sea cadets building and just over cross kop whilst on the cliffs at Heysham, also at pigeon shat alley between prom and sunday market.
The car scenes were surreal, towed on the back of a flat bed truck with a massive arc light, up and down the road they went, back and forth.
There was also a huge stage light pointed at the battery building whilst filming there, great for the town although I pointed out to my wife there hasn't been that many fishermen in this town since way back in the seventies, only 2 shrimpers remain and one of those is close to, if not retiring soon.

Just watched the recording tonight. That stuff didn't go on in the back streets of Morecambe when I was there. Or if it did I didn't get any of it

I think they used 2 different pubs as well they were meant to be in the Royal but when she went to chat to him and he was lening on the bar and they were doing kareoke I think that might be the Nelson.

Last Summer the prom by Costa was closed off while they filmed the WDS's sidekick walking into the Royal. They had to do 5 takes to get it right. The only disappointment was, I chatted to one of the transport drivers who said they were not using local catering for the O.B crew.

All the inside shots - The pub, school, police station, parents house were filmed in Manchester.

School was St Catherine's and the police station was an abandoned station.

Not just 'an' abandoned station, Morecambe's abandoned station.

In Episode One, she passes a uniform sergeant on the stairs and they comment about their night out. Even if she's prepared to delete evidence rather than admit to a brief knee-trembler, surely the uniform sergeant would have come forward and said that they were in the same pub as the suspect?

Enjoying it, but a couple of plot questions.

The new apartments at Broadway are going to be pretty stunning!

I don't think so. All the inside shots including the police station are in Manchester (outside shot is Morecambe station)

There are a few other errors like a Manchester only bus driving past on one shot, but still enjoyable and good for Morecambe.

I misunderstood you originally, I was meaning the outside shots.

Be honest... if it hadn't been filmed in Morecambe, who'd still be watching it? The plot's got more holes in it than a shrimping net! Latest episode's annoying scenes...
End of previous episode, they find Holly and it is light...

But start of last night's episode, they bring her out and it is pitch black...

How long does it take to get the child out of there? I can forgive the location mash-ups, it isn't a geography documentary, but getting dark in two minutes? Did they not bother with anyone checking continuity?

That's without more 'technical' stuff... like why would the hospital be doing pregnancy checks on the child? How quickly did they get those blood results back anyway? Why has the bloke with learning disabilities permanently got a blood pressure cuff on his arm? Why would they be examining for signs of rape while making the mother wait outside and not let the missing child be reunited with her family ASAP? I think that would be a Safeguarding issue!

As for the last scene, 'give me your warrant card and go clear your desk'... I know it is a drama, but really??? They could have 'suspended' her in a more realistic way and still had drama, rather than trying to sound like a 1970's American cop show. And why is a Family Liaison Officer so involved in the actual investigation anyway? And... and...

I'll probably watch next week, to see how it finishes, but if it had been set in Scarborough, I'd have given up weeks ago!
