CB..to stay or go?

If you read the Football Forum it would have you believe that Stockport are very close to doing a deal for CB. Maybe wishfull thinking but who knows. Certainly I and I doubt anybody other than those directly concerned have a clue as to what is going on.
However one thing is for certain CB WILL go somwhere eventually. Question is 'should it be now or later?'
Sammy has gone on record as advising Carl to hang fire for 6 months and then far better clubs that County will be after him. Then of course it depends on the money offered.
As I understand it (correct me by all means if my figures are wrong), we forked out circa £35K for Carl plus no doubt a signing on fee. Part of the deal was that SFC would get a 35% of any future transfer. Let's assume we get £200K for him eventually. After deduction of the original fee, signing on fee and sell on % (based on the actual total fee involved) we could come out of the deal with circa £90K to find a replacement.
£90K isn't a great deal in these inflated times. For me, we need to hold out for more, considerably more!
Carl may want to move on NOW, but for me he's better holding on for a little longer and then he's a far better chance of getting a better club than County.....and of course we'd make a bit more out of the deal, but I would say that I wouldn't I?

I think it's actually 30% of the eventual profit that we owe Southport CC.

...even if only 30% it would only give us £100K profit, still not enough for our only current flair player capable of doing something unexpected.
But maybe to get a team of 100% effort all the time, the flair players who do it spasmodically will be disguarded......but what the hell do I know!!!!!!!

£220! is that all?
After we've paid southport about £68 , we'll only have enough left to buy 4 shirts!

You can't blame the lad for wanting to get on, he's been great for us but he'll be replaced as many have before.
I heard he'd put in a transfer request, and if so with a young family and short careers he just wants to play at the highest levels as he can.
If he waits for a bigger club than Stockport, he may find he spends more time on the subs bench or in the reserves, like D.C.
It must be tempting though when you see former players progress, I've heard Perks is now on £3000 a week at Colchester.

I think Carl should stay untill January and then see if Stockport still want him are are willing to pay the asking price but if the clubs agree a fee and Carl is happy to go then we can't stand in his way

Somebody give this man a new caps lock key!
Im pretty sure Carl will stay. He has plenty of time left on his contract and Stockport are not offering enough cash to take him away from us.

You never know, though. I'd love him to stay as I've been watching our pre-season games I'd love to throw him in front of what I think could be a strong, consistent midfield and let him do his stuff.
But when someone is looking at more money and a move to a higher division you never know how they will react.
Sammy's trying to build a better side and he'll see Carl as integral to that - his ideal would be for Carl to play well and then maybe get a move in January, for more money than is being offered now.
But he doesn't want someone in the dressing room who is going to start getting stroppy (and I hope Carl isn't that type) and acting up.
IF Carl does go there's one new thing that has emerged (IMO) from the couple of games I've seen so far.
I wouldn't want us to use his departure as a reason to go back to Accy for Craney now - I think we look okay in midfield.
I think we could still do with another striker and, possibly another pacy winger.

I agree with Shrimper, what will be will be. We do definitely need a striker, poss with experience, to bring the best from the lads we have. Left sided winger wouldnt go a miss either
then a flying 4,4,2 and up the league we go!

definitely will need a striker before the season starts many fans were saying that at the end of last season and are saying that now and i agree if baker goes by aug i hope we can get a goalscorer and if we can afford it craney as well then we can start to persuade a few more through the gates and we will have a team with a great chance next season i dont think we should be building a team round carl baker....

Hopefully its less likely that Stockport will continue with their interest in Carl now that they have signed Thompson from Linfield for a six figure fee.
Personally i still think Carl needs to prove himself at this level before moving to a higher level, he had a good first half of the season but faded away in the second part, he said himself that there's parts of his game that he needs to improve, he's got a better chance of doing that with us than trying to do it at a higher level.
If he stays and becomes a more effective player, he certainly has the ability, then he will probably get a chance to move to a bigger club than Stockport and we will hopefully make a bit more money.
