O/T John McGuinness breaks leg

John crashed at the North West today. Taken to hospital with suspected broken leg.

That's his TT gone then and perhaps an end to his career too? Could have been a lot worse though.

Hope he recovers quickly and is literally back on his feet soon.

I hope it's not and he is able to ride in the TT, but it doesn't sound good.

According to Honda last night - John is currently in theatre having his right tibula/fibula plated
Bit of a b@gger, that, who we gonna cheer now?

Worse than originally thought
'John has been diagnosed with a compound fracture to his right lower leg, while in theatre on Thursday night it was not possible to plate the leg as initially thought due to the extent of the injury, and tomorrow an external fixator will be fitted. In addition, John has also suffered four broken vertebrae and has three broken back ribs, John will wear a cast for up to six weeks in treatment for the vertebrae. John will remain at Royal Victoria Hospital for around one week as part of the recuperation process.'

Best wishes to John and my thoughts are with Becky and the rest of the family at what must be a very worrying time.

Maybe now he'll think about that retirement, he's had a great TT career winning races in lightweight to superbike plus electric and has nothing left to prove.

The romantic in me would have loved to see him equal Joey's record.
The realist in me thinks we've seen the last of one of the greatest TT racer.

Get well soon John.

He did a talk at the Golf Club last month, for charidee.

It looks like like his awaited comeback on the Norton is now in doubt, Seemingly someone forgot to say how big the engine was!!!
Was looking forward to that, too, b@gger!!

They've put the old, smaller engine back in & he's racing it at the North West 200 this week.
He was also racing (with me! kind of!!!) at Barbon Speed Hill Climb last Saturday, doing quite well.

He’s signed for Bournemouth Kawasaki for this year, top team, best chance of a podium since 2016.

I just hope he gets the wages he’s owed but looks unlikely now

Yeah, saw he was chasing his wages, was on the news before that customers had lost their deposits on new bikes

Signing for Kawasaki does give him his best chance of a podium, Hillier, who has been their rider and been the nearly man for so long, has gone to ride a BM, which should give him a better chance to win. And Hickman, who looks a class above, is also on the same machine, as are plenty of their riders. The BMW is 210 brake horse out of the box, that’s a tool. Trick it up and the right man will be unstoppable.
However, The Kwak team get the bike round lap after lap, so to finish first, first you have to finish!
It’s gonna be fun!

The Kawasaki does the job for Dean Harrison, albeit he’s with the factory team.

See you there Freez and Keith, first practice 31 May, Sulby village. Up the orange army.

If anyone else is coming over pop along and say hello, in my opinion it’s the best place on the course for watching the superbikes, just after the speed trap at the point where they begin to shut off, 190+ mph. Awesome.

Well, I said it when he went on the Norton, but to comeback & win after his injury & now the Norton "debacle" would be up there with the Hailwood comeback (for me, anyway).
Went to Sulby Glen hotel last year for the first time, having been across the road in the churchyard many times. But it was our annual "swallyday" (leave the bikes back at the digs!) so we fancied a change. Considering you only see them for a couple of seconds, the, shall we say sudden? , appearance of the bikes & the noise/sight/pressure change as they go by, a couple of feet (or less!) away, approaching 200mph, really does take your breath away! It's astounding.
We may well return there for this years swallyday.

P.S. never did like that Norton bloke right from his teams first TT appearance, something he said to me when I mentioned fireworks didn't sit well.

If you get there early and get a spot on the grass bank at the village you can see them appear at the Sulby Glen and all the way down the straight to the bridge, probably around 20 secs all in. There's also an escape route on the back roads to Ramsey where you can get back to Douglas on the coast road if you need.

TBF, it’s not unexpected, the powers that be have obviously looked at all the options and the idea that it could be moved to the same time as the Manx GP was muted but wasn’t a go-er.
Pity, but not unexpected!

Sadly, exactly what I expected. TT in May/June was never going to happen. A move to MGP fortnight had other logistical issues. Hopefully the MGP will still go ahead. TT 2022 will be one hell of a party!

It’ll have to be Scarborough next year then, motorhome camping inside the course.

Looks favourite, unless any of the Irish dates are on.
