can anyone recommend a program for converting mp4 files to mp3 as windows moviemaker does not support mp4

You could go in to the properties and at the end change it to .Mp3

I presume you want to rip the audio from a video?
mp4 is a Video file, and mp3 is just Audio.
Just do a search in Google for 'convert mp4 to mp3', there are loads of free ones that even work online, so you won't even need to install any software if you don't want to!
