Devitt: "What a brilliant goal" Sounds like it was curled perfectly in to the top corner! "Six inches lower and the keeper would have saved it, six inches higher and it would have gone over"

Barkhuizen: "WHAT A GOAL!" "We are scoring some goals!" "It is so entertaining, we just need more people coming down here to see it" "Fantastic strike" "Like the one he scored at Portsmouth but a better shot"

Or at home!

Barkhuizen got the sponsors' MotM, Dugdale was the commentary team's MotM.

Good game against a "decent side".

Yup. A happy fan tonight. As a good a performance esp in the second half as I've seen in a long while. Well done to all. Impressed also with the composure of Bailey and young Bondswell looks like he's got a few tricks up his sleeve. As Neil S said ... Very refreshing tonight.

Great win tonight, it was a bit like Saturday we could have conceded a few but on the other hand we always looked good going forward. The football is so much more entertaining this season long may it continue.

Great result. Some patches of good passing football and some patches of less good route one stuff but I thought our defending was fantastic tonight. We kept them out until they tired then used our pace on the counter to great effect.

Baz - 7. Nice and alert, the clean sheet will do him some good.
Molyneux - 7. Solid performance in what I wouldn't say is his natural position.
Dugdale - 7. Solid and composed.
Goodall - 7. Ditto - first name on the team sheet at the moment.
McGowan - 7. Mature performance, great to see.
Fleming - 6. Solid enough, the odd mistake.
Kenyon - 7. Did his job and broke up play well.
Devitt - 8. Great goal, instrumental yet again.
Barkuizen - 7. Quiet game but he seems to have the 'Ellison knack' of producing something from nowhere. This lad is rapid too.
Ryan - 5. Not bad but had little effect on the game. Jury still out.
Mullin - 8. Played the target man role really well, looked busy and when the service wasn't there, he came to get the ball and create something for himself.

** 322 Walsall fans in a crowd of 1332

(** plus 2 on the North Terrace who were a sound couple of blokes. Good to talk to them despite the stewards wanting to move them round to their own seated area)

From the Walsall forum:

31 shots on goal, off the line, sitters, bar, 68% possession, 12 corners. They score with 2 counter attacks in the second half. Keeper has a blinder. Football can be that way. After last season and the trip to Wembley..I'm actually glad we are out.

Interesting where the "stats" are collated from! They did have 31 shots, but over half were way off target or blocked. I can recall we had numerous shots blocked too, but they do not appear to have been counted, bit wierd!
They looked a very good side who play the game the right way, we had the luck in the night, but again, our stats at Hartlepool were similar to theirs, same score line, we move on!
