Carnforth Rangers 1:2 Morecambe

For some unknown reason the above link doesn't work (on my dated PC) however more about the game itself from me.

Morecambe played a very young team and could possibly have been that that featured recently in Austria and then Scotland with only Bailey, Kelleher and Bondswell having featured in the main squad pre season games to date.

Both triallists Pritchard and Thompson featured although neither did anything outstanding to warrant a contract in my opinion. A good number of Shrimp fans sat in the small stand no doubt aware that the elements would change during the course of the match and so it transpired that the rain did materialize in the second 45 by which time the fitness of our young squad began to tell and we dictated play without looking that threatening for the final 30 minutes. Up until that point Carnforth had played very well and at times dictated play without ever looking to capitalize on their one goal lead. Pritchard had an opportunity to level the score but failed miserably with a very poor penalty which didn't do his chances of a contract any favours. However parity was restored thanks to a second penalty duly dispatched by Kelleher. Carnforth continued to impress for the remainder of the first 45.

The second half the game swung from end to end with neither team looking to add to the scoreline. This despite some excellent wing play by Bondswell who at times beat three often four of the Carnforth defenders in an attempt to create some chances for the MFC striker(s). If he continues to progress young Bondswell could be one to watch for the future and at times looked to be a younger version of one Charlie Lee when he first joined the club all those years ago.

Eventuially our fitness told and from a cross into the box from the left by Pritchard, Kelleher scored his and our second and winning goal of the match with a deft touch at the near post. By this time the rain was pouring down and Jimbo decided that he had seen enough and following a brief chat with Drummy departed along with Ken for the warmth of his car and a drive home to Merseyside after yet another long day in the 'office'. As one fan commented 'the number of hours our management team put into their job is commendable and if hard work brings its rewards then our club will benefit'...

All in all a good nights workout for our youth players and some encouraging signs for the future. Certainly plenty of work for the management due of Drummy and Wainwright to get their teeth into but the foundations are there without doubt on which to build for the future.
