Am hearing some sad news that Charlie has sadly passed away.

I'm not old enough to have seen him play for us but have been told many great things about him.

I interviewed him in 1999 when I was MFC programme editor and he had some cracking stories to tell.

I always had a chat with Charlie if ever I bumped into him, Great bloke and still very passionate about football.
I was lucky (old) enough to see him play and he was very exciting to watch running at defender's, God bless you Charlie.

Sad news indeed. He brought a sparkle to the team and was a crowd favourite. One of many Ken Waterhouse signings that made our club a majorcforce in non league atcthe time. The only player to come even close o Jin the skill factor was Ian Cain.

Sad news about Charlie Lea. An exciting, talented footballer who caused defenders to panic when he had the ball at his feet and ran at them. RIP Charlie

Very sad news. I saw him play many times in the Combination. Charlie on one wing and Stewart Holding on the other - defenders nightmare! R.I.P.

I've always thought we should have a statue of a club legend at the ground.

Now could perhaps be the time to action.

Sad news, he was a regular when I first started watching The Shrimps in the late 60,s....always an exiting player

then maybe name the downstairs bar after him like Charlie's Bar or something?

just heard about Charlie new him well and spent a lot of time with him in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid he was one of the best. R.I.P. Bondy.

Great player and a lovely guy - always friendly and smiling. Was my hero when I was little. Had "Charlie Lea is King" on my rattle. Very sad news.

Very true - seeing Charlie around town and his cheery 'alright' would always remind me of those great times behind the goal at CP in the sixties.

I had a chat with him in Smokeys once!
He told me about the good old days..he also told me that he had fallen out of love with the game. .he didn't watch any football on tv but he did say he was proud that the Shrimps made it to the football league

He started on £2 - 17 shillings and sixpence a week at Preston, so our tenner a week was a bonus...

Charlie was a legend for Morecambe FC. When he arrived at Christie Park with a number of new players it transformed the team and the performances. With Stewart Holding (who could deliver the best crosses into the box I've ever seen) on one wing and Charlie's tricky wing play on the other we set a standard of attacking football that saw us through to many successes. Exciting times.

Sad news

He was one of my favourite players when I used to watch him from the Paddock as a kid. An exciting player and a really nice bloke.

Typical Rod Taylor.
He organised with Charlie's family for the funeral procession to go down Broadway past the training ground, all the staff, players and coaches paid their respects at the roadside as the cortège passed by.
Superb touch and as per usual Mr Taylor is the perfect embodiment of why we love this club.

Friends, family and previous business colleagues have asked me on numerous occasions what it is about our club that I love so much?

It's simple acts like this that make me so proud to be associated with such a wonderful club.

And with people like Rod Taylor at the helm long may it continue.
