Macc fan here, Jack Sampson is rumoured to be signing for us soon. He played a couple of games at the end of last season for us and looked pretty decent, was wondering what you all thought about him? I appreciate he obviously wasn't good enough for League 2, but do you think he could do a good job in the conference?

Yes. He showed promise, but never just got there. He needs a partner to feed as his own performance in front of goal was pretty poor imo

Personally I thought Jack didn't really get a fair crack of the whip, but showed he had what it took as target man. He did score a few in his first season and was handful but a couple of injuries and a fair few poor performances wrecked his last season!
Needs a run of games and an arm round him and would be very useful in the Conference.

I liked Sampson; has all the physical attributes to be a good player in the FL but just didn't get the goal return here.... Although he wasn't alone in that and perhaps didn't have the same opportunities as some of our other strikers. His long throw-in is a weapon that we didn't utilise enough, mainly because he was our only decent attacking player in the air.... But he had to take the set piece.

Can't think of anyone that Jimbo has let go that's gone on to better things, maybe Jack will be the first but I don't think we have the space in our squad/budget at the moment to accommodate him and Mullin, and Mullin has progressed more IMO.

Can remember a game at Exeter when Sampson created a bit of havoc amongst their defence and I was surprised Jim took him off. Good target man. Wouldn't surprise me if he got back in league 2 sometime.

Cheers guy, sounds like it could be a good signing (if true), hopefully we'll sign someone fast and with some goals in them to partner him up front.
