The Citizen

Some of you might have noticed Matt from the Citizen hasn't put a report online this afternoon. The Citizen is closing and we may have already had the last free paper through our doors. Although things are still in the consultation phase, Matt has had his privileges to update the web site removed so it's a done deal, it's closing.

Matt's done an excellent job covering MFC and thanks to Matt we have had 3 photographers at most games.

Sorry to hear about the Citizen and in particular Matt. Just another result of the economic climate.

Economic climate has little to do with this one. A very succesful, profitable local paper.

The citizen survives, or survived on advertising, most businesses are not advertising much lately due to the recession, which in my opinion is going to get a lot worse, the citizen has got thinner and thinner lately due to less adverts, so, it is a victim of the downturn in the economy for sure, good luck Matt!

Crying shame - compared to some of the free papers I've seen, the Citizen was fantastic.

What will Irene Sutcliffe do without being able to write weekly to their letters page?

Someone (most definitely not Matt) seems to have got rights to post a sport story, brief match report at http://www.thelancasterandmorecambeciti ... lington_0/

The main news headline is all about Old Trafford. Didn't appreciate they'd extended the Lancaster city boundary

Sorry to hear that the Citizen is going/ gone.
If I was going to write a reference for Matt to find a new job it would say.

Matt is a most notable scribe who I'm sure will soon
find work, his reports are excellent and his knowledge of his subject is
a testament to the hours of research he does prior to his reports.
Although can be a little biased when supprting a home town win, we never have enough of those to warrant any adverse reporting.
His grammar and punctuation match those of Fleet Streets finest at the Gaurdian

I highly reccommend Mr Donlan to you, he has kept me company many a sultry, Sydney early morning.

That may help Matt if you are applying for a tea boy job in a Gay brothel

Good luck Matt, I wish you well.

8-) and before anyone says owt, yes I did it on purpose.
If you don't know what I'm talking about

I always enjoyed Matt's reports especially the descriptions for each players rating and his assesment of the ref they can be very entertaining.

Matt has done some cracking work keeping the sports page of the website updated with new stories appaearing every couple of days.

This is a real shame. I always read the match reports online on a Monday if I can't get to the game. Gives a really good, detailed perspective, especially the stats and player ratings.
