I think I may venture to Chester, any plans of meeting up in the town somewhere for a drink?

Those under thumbs, Chester is a really good place to take the wife/girlfriend. Set her off round the shops and jobs a good un. All you've got to do is slip away for a couple of hours for the match and she'll never know! Of course this attitude may explain my current relationship status......nah.

I tried this once as I agree Chester is a good place for shopping etc.

However there was no public transport to the ground, none of the locals knew where it was and I ended up walking for miles and eventually getting there at half time. Still got charged full price to enter the ground though.

There is such thing as a taxi..... 45 min walk from the station to the ground if you've got the nose for an adventure and the belly for a pub crawl. It really is a stunning little City for all you culture vultures, the only I believe to have it's ancient city walls complete and intact.

Me and my lad will be going. Not decided whether or not we should go by train (for free) and risk getting soaked getting to/from the ground, or to go by car (not for free!). Hmm.... :?

Anyway, a couple of links showing directions to the ground:
http://www.chestercityfc.net/MatchTravel
http://www.footballgroundguide.com/chester.htm

Example train times:
Lancaster d.11:34, Chester a.12:44 (direct Virgin Trains service).
Chester d.17:53 or 17:56, Manchester Piccadilly a.18:59 or 19:28, d.19:44, Lancaster a.20:47.

I'll be there... count me in! :o
If folk are meeting up before the game then I may even pop out early for a cheeky scoop or two!

what you do is drop them off at cheshire oaks designer outlet as it is directly on the route to chesters ground and collect them after the game. They get over 3 hours quality shopping and you get to see the game, everyone wins

Setting off around 12. What was the name of that nice little pub by the Racecourse?

The one by the racecourse (just past the city walls) is called The Watergate.

We went on a school trip to Chester Zoo.
Lots of fun it was too.
There is also a world famous ballet school in Chester. Many stars of British Ballet
are from the Hammond school.
8-)

For anyone who's going to Chester and hasn't set off yet... bring a raincoat, the weather is bloody awful here
