Have a look at Apollo 2000 for some excellent deals. Will negotiate if you have proof of same item elsewhere.

John Lewis is good also..even though they have a lot of 'toff' clients, their special deals are excellent value.

If it's a cheaper option, ALDI offer a good TV for a bargain price.

Can vouch for Richer Sounds. Good company to deal with especially the Preston branch.

My7 advice is stay clear of the likes of Currys and Comet.
After Sales a load of poo!

Best place to look for independent advice on TVs , DVD Players, PVRs, Hi-Fi etc etc is:

www.avforums.com

Here is where people are discussing LCD flat-panel TVs:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-tv-should-i-buy/

For a 32" LCD TV that will not break the bank the consensus seems to be that this is the best bet:

Sony KDL-32V4000

I just ordered mine today from www.amazon.com. It was about £388 with free delivery and free 3yrs warranty.

Alternatively you could get the same TV from Richer Sounds at Preston for £370 with std 12 months warranty or £407 with 5yrs warranty.

Agree that Comet and Currys should be avoided. Beware that in a lot of shops the salesperson gets more commission on certain products (eg LG TVs) and so will push those, even if they aren't as good! Also don't pay too much attention to the picture quality in the shop - they very rarely have TVs set up properly in the shops.

Good luck!!

plasma tvs are better than lcd in my opinion.plasma can be veiwed from all angles, whereas lcd cant, you have to view straight on.by the way comet salespersons do not get commision on sales anymore

A mate of mine has a TV supply and installation business in Sheffield and what he doesnt know about TVs isnt worth knowing. He agrees that plasma is best.

The way he put it was something along the lines of sending a light signal through gas was much faster and clearer that sending it through liquid. He has a 50" HD Plasma.

I bought a Samsung plasma 42" 3 and a half years ago and it is still as good as when I first got it. Sometimes I wish something would go wrong so I can upgrade but until it does, there is no way the wife would let me.

We bought a 50" Plasma from Hitchins - ex display with a slight mark on the screen which isn`t viewable when it`s switched on and only just viewable when it`s off - £790 - 1 year warranty.
Works great, looks much bigger when I got it home - but hey, that`s not a problem is it!!

Beware though when moving Plasma screens - keep them vertical at all times, never lay them flat or tip them.

I wouldn't buy electrical goods from Hitchens, most has already been delivered, used and sent back. Even if they were boxed new, they're expensive compared to online prices.

LCD TVs are as green as CRTs, Plasma are 4 times worse. In terms of carbon emissions, the EST says old-style TVs produce 100kg of climate-warming CO2 per year - while larger, plasma screens (there are no small plasma TVs) will pump out 400kg.

Yep. Warms the room up nicely. It was bought and fit instead of a fireplace so I can offset that against my carbon footprint. ;)

Personally, I can't stand standard defnition telly viewed on a plasma or lcd. I agree that HD is stunning, but I won't be upgrading my CRT until HD is much more widespread (and SKy don't take the piss with an extra £10 a month for the pleasure)

My CRT died earlier this year so I bought a new Samsung 32" LCD & a Samsung PVR/DVD.
Thought 'buy local' good after care etc, even if could get cheaper in UK. DVD has been back twice and TV back with it this time. Dumped them both back the day I left to come away, told them to have both working on my return or money back. Pile of bloomin' poo.

But when they worked, Blueray & HD looked stunning!
