The management team of Sammy Mcllroy and Mark Lillis is one of the best in the lower leagues and every time a 'bigger' club starts looking for a new manager, i always fear that they will, sooner or later, turn their attention to Christie Park. After reading an earlier post it appears that Hull are showing an interest in ML. For a club the size of Morecambe to have and to keep a manager and coach of the calibre of these two is virtually impossible. If i'm correct, they are only under contract for the next 12 months, something which the board needs to address because the shorter the contract the less compensation the club receives, if they are on perhaps 2 or 3 year contracts the poaching club might look else where because of the cost implications to themselves. I'm not saying we should refuse larger clubs to talk to SM and ML, because they have earned the right to go on to bigger and greater things, ie, lots of money, but maybe a large amount of compensation will cushion the blow to ourselves and give us a bit more of a bargaining tool when we try and nick somebody else's manager.

Ha ha...I pissed my sides when I spoke that to myself in a west country accent!
Back to the matter in hand, and if I might be slightly contentious. Sammy's been a manager for a long time, but hasn't really cut the mustard higher up the leagues. I'm not sure why, but in a selfish sort of way, I hope that that this means that clubs higher up the leagues don't look at Sammy to fill their vacancies. If Mark does go, it could be a testing season for Sammy.

I think the main reason he didn't was because of the relationship he ended up having with the board at Stockport. He also went to Norniron and had a poor squad to work with. But a lot of their fans still say that the work he was doing to turn the situation round by bringing through new and younger players bore fruit shortly after he left.
