Sad to hear that ex Halifax man Geoff Horsfield has announced his retirement at 35 as he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Wish him all the best, hope he can be inspired by his mate Peter Jackson,

Very sad news that. Bit of a legend, in my opinion. Came across as a normal bloke done good.

Always seems to happen to the nice blokes sadly. It's never the Ashley Coles or Ron Atkinsons of this world.

I hope Geoff Horsfield get's through it too, saw him at Christie a few times with a then very physical Halifax side, it was plain to see that he would go on to play at a higher level.

I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone, what exactly have Big Ron and Ashley Cole ever done to you ?

Saw Geof as a young lad playing for Guiseley against us. Also went to see him when they played at Horwich the season they were vying with us for promotion to the Conference.
Cracking player at that level. Then he played against us IIRC when Witton Albion knocked us out of the FA Cup one season. A few of us urged Mcbe to sign him then but we didn't and he went on to Halifax and then right up into the top flight.

I had harboured hopes he might at last come to Mcbe at the end of his career - he may still have done us a job.

A lot of us will wish him all the best in his battle against illness - totally committed footballer who always gave every ounce of his energy. Also seemed like a good bloke whenever I've heard him interviewed.

He played against us for Guiseley in the Trophy Quarter Final in 1993/94 season too when we went down 2-3. Cracking following from Morecambe that day, total w@nk performance by Leighton's "team" though ........

The Witton Game was that when were 2v0 up and lost 3v2 or something silly another great display of Morecambe defending back in the days.

good player from non league to premiership took it all in is stride we wish him well

I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone either, but I think the point (as I'm sure you know) that if it has to happen to someone, it doesn't appear to be the nasty folk. If one of those three 'had' to have cancer, I doubt if Geoff would top many people's "wish" list.

I seem to remember our goal was an own goal from a Shirley cross though??

As for Geoff, fantastic attitude and a real 'Roy of the Rovers' journey to the top.
