Hens teeth for a decent one at this time of year, as everyone is using them! Autosleeper are a bit dearer than most, combine that with a VW badge and "T4" model you are unlikely to pick up a bargain. Many end up going down the converted van road to save a bit, but check what has been transported around in it first!

If you get offered 2 or 3 beyond your requirements and don't require a mortgage I will have the other 2 !

Do you prefer a high top or an elevating roof?

Would prefer a diesel VW trident (high top), but would consider a VW trooper. Checking out the usual places EBay and Autotrader also been to Todds at Lostock Hall but they were a bit prices.

Motorhome prices are a law unto themselves. The newer shape you are looking for was £18960 new in 1993 and a decent example now can still be seen for sale for around £10K

I see Todds are asking £16K for a 1998 ~ at least that was £23K when new 13 years ago!

Good luck with your hunting. Just be careful not to get one that seems "cheap" but has been fiddled with and bodged.

EDIT: There is an older shape one here for £12K!

As you see it's had a new engine for £4500 these are the things you need to look out for! ;)

I just bought a VW Campervan (HiTop) from Leisuredrive at Bolton. They seem an excellent firm - been in business 40+ years. See:-

http://www.leisuredrive.co.uk/

Mine is a brand new conversion based on a 2007 VW T5 van. Leisuredrive seem to mainly convert and sell VW vans that are 2005 or newer - not sure whether this is what you want or rather something older (i.e cheaper). But worth checking what they have in stock and what they are getting in soon. If you want something older I'm sure they could source you an older VW T5 to convert. They will do whatever you commission them to do. Another thing is their website carries private adverts on behalf of ex-Leisuredrive customers who are selling second-hand Leisuredrive VW Campervans.

At the time of buying my campervan I also looked at campervans at the following local places:

- Stewart Longton, Bolton-le-Sands
- Bay View Cars, Grosvenor Road Morecambe
- G&L Freelance, Kendal
- ES Hartley. Ings (nr Kendal)
- Callender's, Carnforth
- Kendal Camping Centre Ltd, nr Kendal

Anyway - good luck in your search!

PS: Doesn't our very own Stewart Drummond famously have a VW Campervan sitting on his driveway waiting to be "done up" which has been sitting there for years!

Thanks to everybody for their help and advice. I have bought a petrol 1992 VW Trooper with 73.000 miles on the clock it's in good condition, there are a few things we need to get sorted but on the hole it's just what we were after. Paid £7,500 but had to drive to Whitley Bay to get it. :D

I could have picked it up for you and brought it over! It's only down the road and we drive back every couple of weeks.
