Just for those fellow fisherman out there, I am setting up a morecambe based angling club and hopefully going to incorporate it using the supporters club, I believe this is a great way of getting youngsters off the streets, it gives kids and adults an alternative sport to do, I also know their are some footballers current and ex that also do course fishing so hoping they will join us now and again.

Here is one project currently active that are trying to help kids (Angling Projects) and works very well.

If this interests anyone please register at Morecambe Angling Club

Membership will be free until 1st July 2011.

Regards

Sam

Morecambe Angling Club has been introduced as part of the "Fans' of Morecambe Supporters Club"

Didn't see that in the minutes of any of the meetings but it might explain why my facebook account gets spammed with links to it from various Morecambe FC groups.

just getting started now pal, it will be decided by members shortly if it should be linked with the supporters club or not, if not it will become a club by its own rights!

Its a great way of helping kids in our community to get off the streets and into something that is fun for all the family!

The power is already going to heads I see. What has fishing got to do with football?

How can you say "Morecambe Angling Club has been introduced as part of the "Fans' of Morecambe Supporters Club" without the agreement of the committee or members?

I cant see anything that has come out of this fan club yet. I dont buy into the Globe Bar revamp as being influenced by FC Morecambe (Groan). Rod Taylor and Mark Dickson have both stated that it had been planned for some time before the first meeting.

Are we going to see money raised spent on attending Dinners again? I had hoped a socialist in charge would see some action!

At least we have a Fishing Club!

I can arrange for this to be changed if anyone disagree's? I real am not fused, but part of the reason I am involved with the supporters club is to help the community not just the football club!

I see far too many kids getting into bother nowadays because of lack of stuff to do. Some people would love to give it a go but just simple cannot afford too. Fishing certainly is not the cheapest sport to do but I think its an enjoyable one and if it gets kids off the streets and doing something that does not get them into bother then why not try it?

Like I said if people simple are against the idea then tell me now and Ill make it a separate entity!

I love fishing, all you need is a line and the right bait, not money, good luck with the fishing club.

You should know. You have tried many different baits on here and sometimes only get a bite when you change your hook as well!

I've got no problem with the Angling Club being promoted on here as long as it is subtle, (ie not repeatedly bounced). Personally, I can't think of anything more tedious* than sitting on a river bank or The Stone Jetty waiting for something to happen, then throwing the fish/sea-weed/Wellington boot back in to the water.

But I also admire the attempts by some people to offer opportunities to young folk who might wish to give it a go and I hope they are successful. I'm not overly keen on the Facebook e-mails from the supporters club that are 'off topic' but in the shed-loads of random crap that I receive daily, it is just one more 'delete' click among many. If it helps them get up and running, then I don't see a problem for a short while.

*Cricket. So, yes I can.

The Stone Jetty was great for fishing before they extended it.
Howling gales and spring tides.
I can remember one night reeling-in 3 cod and a whiting on a 4 hook paternoster, and doing the same with the next cast.
Great activity, until girls came along 8-)
