Maybe not be quite what we are looking for but maybe worth taking a gamble.

Looks like his mind is set on Stockport for some strange reason , all seems to have gone quiet on the transfer front . If only Shuker was 6ft + as his movement on Saturday was quite good as too was his link up play with Duffs but was let down a few times by his weak passing . Will be interesting to see if he keeps his place this Saturday.

Just another name added to the 'suggestions' list!

We hope our manager reads this forum, but he'll have his own 'hit' list.

As for this suggestion, he seems pretty keen on a move to Stockport.... :?: :?: :?:

IF Sammy does read this forum, we would be well advised to have a look at this lad from Matlock Town, Ross Hannah.

Banging goals in left, right and centre for fun this season and the Matlock manager is "amazed" no Football League club has come in for him yet.

Been mentioned on SVs before.

We take a defender on trial as a result of an Agent's recommendation.

This players manager seems surprised that he's not been snapped up by now.

Surely worth a look.... :?: :?: :?:

Are either of these any better than Stuart Hendrie?

Who knows mate.

All I know is that I still read the Non League Paper every Sunday and young Mr Hannah gets rave reviews and scores on a (very, very, very) regular basis.

From Vital Stockports Facebook status '** - Peter Ward rejects Motherwell striker Esteban Con artist...erm, Casagolda. Wardy says the Spaniard was aware of a contract offer from The Hatters in the summer, and used County to get more money from Motherwell.'

I watched Ross Hannah play for Matlock away at Kendal in the FA Trophy earlier this season and was by far and away the best player on the pitch! Scorer of a terrific goal, still one of the best I have seen to date this season.

Here is what the Matlock Town FC website says about this hotshot:

23 years old Ross joined Matlock from neighbours Belper Town in the summer of 2008, where he had been the leading scorer. His career began as a junior at both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United before he joined Stocksbridge in 2004. Then followed a move to Belper but he then joined Gainsborough Trinity for a short spell before returning to the Nailers. Despite injury, Ross had a great first season at Matlock ending up as top scorer and collecting the fans Player of the Year Award. Last season was even better as he swept the board at the club’s Presentation Evening winning the fans and players player awards plus the leading scorer trophy. He also won the UniBond Premier Division’s Golden Boot Award.

Not entirely sure what his "injury" was, but that has not affected him, it seems! :D

Currently has 42 in all comps inc. friendlies and cup ties...also scored 7 (!) in one game against Bedworth in the FA Trophy back in October.

Worth a punt....without doubt!!!!

The clubs management team have gone very quiet on bringing in a new striker.

Just hope that the silence is because they are keeping their cards very close to their chests in fear of alerting other clubs to who they are targeting.

Both the Matlock and Marine lads sound promising, but should the club take a gamble on players unproven at out level or go after a current League 1 / 2 proven striker.....if in fact it is now necessary after recent improved performances?

:?: :?: :?:

Most definitely still needed in my opinion, especially with Spencer out until 29th Jan.As much as like Mullin and applaud his workrate, the style of play we revert to is unattractive and somewhat ineffective. With Jevons still on the sidelines and Hendrie unproven, it still leaves us short. Ideally you want a partnership with an impact sub. That means 3 strikers who are fit and able to play. For tomorrow's game we appear to have only Mullin and Shuker (who has adopted a more attacking central role).

I'd still be in for a decent striker, or at least have a punt on the lad from Matlock.

Despite the lad scoring for fun at Matlock, doesn't mean he's going to score for fun in the football league.

He's just going to be as unproven as Hendrie, so why not just give Hendrie a chance? a game not five minutes!

It would also stop us from playing that woeful football when we have that numpty Mullin upfront!

these sort of gamble's are tricky because you would be hoping for a Charlie Austin at Swindon but instead you might get a Jordan Connerton or Neil Harvey!

Which would be pointless indeed

There would be a very good reason why he hasn't been 'snapped up yet'.
What makes me suspicious is why would a manager promote the fact he wants his 'best' striker to be snapped up?
Surely he'd want to keep him as long as possible?

Freddy Adu is also available  as is Owen who has been seen plenty of times at McDonald's.

Just to comment that it is a heck of a step up to League level from Matlock Town's status. Look how long it took before Duffy started to look like the pleyer we now know he is, and he only came from Southport's level.

That is not to suggest that the lad MIGHT not make it, but we are not the kind of club that can carry players for a year or two whilst they acclimatise.

Why don't we just play Hendrie instead of signing more non league players?

Apparently he isnt ready to play at this level yet he needs at least 6 more minutes of coming off the bench at the end of the match. ;)

I'm sorry, i'm totally against this comment...not without good reason.

1. Is it irrespective as to what "level" a striker scores at? Does that matter? As long as he can put the ball in the net!

2. Our striker options are somewhat threadbare at the moment...so it wouldn't be a major disaster to give Hannah a shot.

3. With respect to the board here at MFC, surely they would rather "take a gamble" on a non-league striker on less wages, than, say, a proven football league goalscorer?

Look what got us promoted... Twice in 12 years on non-league strikers! I'm not looking at League 1 - not for some time, but we need to be financially realistic as to whom, if anyone we approach.
