if that turns out to be true, what a great achievement for him to have played his way right through the football pyramid.

Good luck to the lad. I remember seeing him sat in The Arndale Centre one afternoon prior to a pre-season friendly just after he had signed for us. Sat there on his own like Little Boy Lost !!

Conference (Southport) to League 2 (Morecambe) to League 1 (Stockport,as they were then) to Championship (Coventry) to Premiership (Birmingham).

Fully deserved and one hell of a climb.

A great achievement by Carl if this goes through. He's done himself and his family proud and deserves his chance at the top.

I just wonder how long before someone comes out with the good old "Will we get any money from the transfer fee?"........
HOWAY THE SHRIMPS!!!!!

On topic(ish) and proud!

That's a very good point Keith. Never thought about that.

Could be a sizeable amount if so ??

I was thinking the same Keith. Did we not put a clause in his transfer to Stockport that if he ever moved on the shrimps would be due money from transfer fees for the rest of his football career??? We should also be due a percentage of any after dinner speaking he may partake on account of him having once played for Morecambe.

Well done Carl Baker.

Would be great to see a former Shrimp in the Prem (has anyone left us to play in Prem before, been a few come down?)

Suprised though as didn't think he was a regular at Coventry.

Alan Taylor of course, who went to West Ham in the old First Division Pre-Premier League.

i seriously doubt it..

that normally works with the club you sold him to and only then if you have a sell on percentage agreement with them

and now as far as clubs Carl Baker as played for goes he's not just 2nd had goods he will be 3rd hand goods if Birmingham sign him

there's no way will get anything it's a Coventry vs Birmingham deal nothing to do with us

Why didn't we just miss out the middle men and sell him to Birmingham in the first place. Total lack of foresight

Good shout though his wikipedia account doesnt say much about his time at Morecambe - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Taylo ... _born_1953) , did he win the FA Trophy with us??

Though no Shrimp has gone to the top tia whilst the Premiership has been around?

Taylor didn't win the Trophy in '74 with us mate, no.

He was already at Rochdale at that point and not long off signing for The Hammers.

Technically speaking Lloydie, Stuart Barlow DID progress from Morecambe to the Premier League !

Even though he played for us towards the end of his career, AFTER his Premier League career at Everton, whilst he was a Junior at Goodison Park and still to make his first team debut, he came on loan to us for one game in the 1989/90 season for a cup match.

He then went on to play many Premier League games for Everton, so techincally, he qualifies !!

John Hardiker almost made it, many of us thought he would, especially after he scored two goals for Stockport v Manchester City in what is now the Championship back in 2002. Just nine seasons later and Stockport are two places are above relegation out of the Football League while Man City are second best in English football and John himself is playing for Droylsden in the Blue Square North.

Congratulations Carl, was a pleasure to watch your rise from nonleague. Your skill and trickery will never be forgotten, well done!

OK on that note how many other players can claim such a rise without dropping down a rung and going back up again. Conference, 4th, 3rd, 2nd , 1st. Recent history preferred

Brett Ormerod?
Dj Campbell? Think he skipped a few though.
