Fa Cup 3rd Round

Taken the plunge and booked a Premier Inn in Kensington (Olympia) on the Saturday night. Stopped there with the wife for her 60th birthday trip and it was very nice .Near to Earls Court tube and just a hop skip and a jump to Stamford Bridge. Currently £108 which ain't bad for London on a Saturday.

I suppose that guarantees a Friday night game.

Ah well Friday's currently £78 in the same hotel. Bargain!

If you can do that you need to enter the Olympics :)

Not much chance of that with a hip replacement pending. Might manage a coordinated limp into a taxi right outside the digs and I definitely won’t be going for tickets in the upper tier LOL.

Game date not been decided, we have to wait, the match will be played the weekend starting Friday 10th Jan 2025.

I was in the club shop this morning, people have been phoning in like mad apparently and the day of the match has not been set.

There are 7 London FA cup games that weekend, they are all not going to be on one day, I would hold back for now, unless you go down Thursday and come back Tuesday.

Does anybody actually believe that the FA give stuff about fans when deciding what day of the week it should be played.... :o

Their logic could well be one of 'well fans from up North will not travel on a Friday..so that makes policing a game far easier if played on a Friday'....... :(

If its Fri, I think it would have a good chance of being a TV game.

As redrobo says there will be no logic in times etc or give a thought in giving Morecambe supporters time for us up north to get down there!

Are there any european games that week? Not sure if the group stages have finished by then if so it would point to a Sunday ko.

Excellent draw and a fewxwelcome pennies in the pot as well. Let's hope we get a few down there on the day. Good test for the Trust to organise travel.

"...is my mind playing tricks with me"...

Well, that was Spurs and this is Chelsea, and Stephen Robinson was manager, but otherwise, spot on.

Chelsea & Derek, was during COVID, so no fans. I think it was 4-0 but we missed a decent chance at 0-0.

Stephen Robinson had COVID so wasn't at Tottenham, Leaving Diarmuid O'Carroll to take charge!

Yeah, but Robinson was still manager, and definitely not Derek! :D

I wonder if policing has any impact on choosing games for TV? For example, if Fulham v Watford or Chelsea v Morecambe has to be moved anyway, will that influence TV? Do the TV companies simply say, 'these are the games we're showing' or do they negotiate with the FA, 'we'd like four from these eight matches'? Chelsea play on Tuesday 14th January, in a game that appears to be live on TNT Sport, so it won't be Sunday or Manday for FA Cup (unless TNT Sport will move their live game?) Fulham have a game on the Tuesday, but it isn't on TV, so presumably, they could move their game to Sunday, and move the Tuesday game to Wednesday, or, play it on Friday?

Option then, for our game, would appear to be, Friday night (on TV?) or the Saturday.

An early chance for us to weigh up the opposition this evening when they visit Southampton. Maybe spot a few chinks in their billion pound armour? Good luck with that one!

Chelsea's front 6 tonight were signed for just... 395 million

Let that sink in and what we will be up against

Can't see us even getting close to an upset BUT it all depends on what team Chelsea put out on the day. A much changed team beat Barrow 5-0 earlier this season. So if we can achieve anything like that result will be excellent.

They'll do like Spurs did and put a youth/reserve team out till half time. If they are not thrashing us they'll then put on some of the big guns. We'll do well if we are still in it to half time.

Their 'stiffs' hammered someone 8-0 in Europe recently. They play Shamrock Rovers in it before us so we may get an idea what we are about to face from that.

Park the bus I say! Practice penalties all week and pray we get all the luck going to get to a penalty shootout. If we try and push forward too much they'll just play around us and destroy us.

Look we are winners, financial winners, the football is an experience for our players and management, embrace it. The fans that go, (I’ve not made my mind up yet!! it will be in the details of the tie, the journey down to London just putting a downer on it for me!!), i hope it is a great day out.

I'd like us to use the experience and have a go when possible.

Watching Match of the Day last night the amount of goals scored from outside the box by players having a pop is something that may be possible for us on the day as to try and work the ball into their box will be very difficult.

Shoot for goal on sight and if it goes wide, over the top or is save then at least we've had a go rather than sit back and park the bus which would for me play directly into their hands.

Miracles do happen at Christmas time....why not for our club.... :?: :?: :?:

The game will be too late for a Christmas miracle, we will be firmly in the Epiphany period of the Christian calendar by that point.

Chelsea v Barrow match report....

https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/artic ... 0graduates.

Sounds as though Barrow to their credit had a go albeit only occasionally.
