Dale buys for a £1, then wants to sell for £2M, now down to £500K, Cala will be there offering to double his money at £2.
41 of the 53 companies Dale has been in charge of have gone into liquidation, how are these people allowed to get anywhere near anything

As harsh as it is Bury have spent more money than they had. The BBC don't help anyone with their gutter level journalism, trying to keep a story running to gain a few more hits.

Fear Bury won't be the last and yes the Football League have some serious questions to answer but the blame lies with the owners of the club. Too many looking for a quick buck or moment in the sun. If your business isn't finicially viable it doesn't matter if you are a football club or selling plastic washers. The simple matter is you run out of money.

Steve Dale had no money though thats why players were left months without payment. Stewart Day was the culprit who racked up debt by putting loans on the stadium which was charged high interest. Had their been a fit and proper check by the EFL maybe Bury would have had a better owner. However they both screwed them over however the way you look at it.

I seem to remember only a few years ago several SVers calling for more money to be injected into the team in the hope of promotion. As we were losing hundreds of thousands each year that also would have been money we never had! Gambling on promotion at the risk, not just of relegation, but maybe of extinction.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/da ... w-recovery

I remember reading this Guardian article back in 2014. Even back then a minority of Bury fans were extremely worried about the owners methods of financing the club and what it may lead to in the future. Despite their protestations the borrowing and high spending continued. Many supporters were content to bury their heads in the sand and blindly support the owner as long as success on the pitch continued.

Some would say the inevitable has now happened. It is horrendous for their fans because it must leave a massive hole in your life when your club implodes like this.

I think Bury have always had cash flow problems like any other league club. It states in the Bury Times in 2001/02 Bury had financial problems linked to the collaspe of ITV digital which took Bury into administration close to folding. Supporters raised enough money to survive. I remember going around 2004 to watch them at the Gigg and fans were out collecting with buckets. In 2012 the shakers had a transfer embargo placed on them after finiancial trouble due to poor attendances.

I think the problem lies with both Stewart Day and Steve Dale. One over spent and put loans on the club the other didn't pay wages and when potential buyers came in he wasn't interested until the last minute, by that time it was too late. Its not the bury fans at fault its the two owners.

Interesting.......

"The English Football League is to discuss Bury's future with its member clubs following efforts to reinstate the Shakers in League Two next season."

Big decisions here, we don't want to lose a club, but meantime a team that ends up second from bottom might have concern

It would be a heck of a precedent to set if they allow them back in next season. So in future any club who falls foul of dodgy owners (which we all know there are plenty about) can get expelled, have the majority of the debts written off, then magically reappear in the league below the following season.

Lets get some dodgy owners with lots of dodgy money then! I think we would all enjoy a surge up the leagues and some glory with top quality players if we could then have a brief break then re-emerge one league down the following season and just carry on?

Surely never going to happen or else it could become the norm. :o

No way should they be allowed back into the EFL. Even the Conference would be out of bounds for me.

IF they are allowed back in then when it happens to the next club the EFL will have to let them back in as well.

The Ltd company behind Bury haven't gone bust and it continues to trade. They arranged a CVA with creditors allowing it to survive. This makes them different to Aldershot and Maidstone where the companies were liquidated giving the EFL solid ground to remove them. I wouldn't like to be one of the EFL right now.
