Had a look at those who left our promotion winning squad during and at the end of last season are getting on and it hasn’t been good for any of them, with either not starting or bad injuries, bar Pringle, Slew and Songo’o and two of them had to drop a league to find regular starts.

Mark Halstead (Torquay) - Dropped after starting the season
Jake Turner (Colchester) - Not played a game
Kelvin Mellor (Carlisle) - Injured. Carlisle in relegation fight and manager sacked.
Sam Lavelle (Charlton) - Injured.
Harry Davis (Scunny) - Back in side after injury. Scored only goal in five consecutive league defeats
Nat Knight-Perceval (Tranmere) - Dropped and out of side last six weeks.
Stephen Hendrie (Patrick) - Not even in the match day squad
Alex Denny (Salford) - Not in match day squad
Alex Kenyon (Scunny) - Injured and out for last two months
A-Jay Leitch-Smith (Alty) - Injured for second time but managed two goals in five
Brad Lyons (Kilmarnock) - Not established himself, just one start and 7 sub appearances
Liam McAlinden (Wrexham) - In and out of starting lineup. Not scored in 10.
Carlos Mendes-Gomes (Luton) - Sub at best (got 3 mins last week) and not even match day squad lately
John O’Sullivan (Accy) - Injured but now back and bench sitting at best
Ben Pringle (Alty) - Ever present at Alty
Jordan Slew (Halifax) - Regular starter and scored 4, although injured recently
Yann Songo’o (Bradford) - Ever present after early injury.

We kept the gudduns then ;) Thought many would have done better, seemed such a great team at that level and was sorry to see many go. Wonder if Carlos is regretting his move? Such a waste of talent.

Agreed. As most said, the only one from that we’d have kept was Songo’o.

Wasn’t Knight-Perceval offered a contract?

i watched Newport vs Bradford a few weeks ago and Derek had Songo as anchor man then went into a back three late on, Songo was winning everything.

Noticed CMG didn’t make the bench again for Luton last night, is he injured or not ready for the championship ??
Could come on loan in January,

Just the sort of player we could do with to play near Cole or play with someone else if Cole departs.

He's Irish , lives in Manchester , surplus to requirements at Newport so maybe we could gazump Exeter for a loan deal ?

Another one who didn't want to leave us but had no option when Jimbo decided he had to go and that was after Jimbo went after him big time to get him on board.

Sometimes thought Jimbo regretted the decision to let him go.

Untrue Neil. His agent demanded a 50% hike in his wages or he would take him elsewhere. So we didn’t and he did.
Hartlepool, Grimsby his agent did the same after he left us.
Got to Newport, did well on his 1 year deal, when it came to another deal, Podge got rid of him and settled for a sensible salary at Newport with a new agent.

Jimbo spoke to me all about Amond and how he had chased him for his signature a long time and was made up when he finally got him.

Didn't want him to leave but had no option other than to accept the situation. I wasn't aware of the wages issue as Jimbo never told me of that problem....and quite rightly so.

So thanks to Freez regarding the reason for his departure although I do seem to recall a post on this forum some time ago did mention wages may have been a problem but no percentages were given......but I could be wrong.

Considering Jim assembled the most potent attack he had with us for the season following Amond's departure, it's a bit silly to insinuate that letting Amond go was some kind of big mistake. Especially when you also consider that we brought in Barkhuizen permanently that summer, who was brilliant and the eventual sale of him pretty much saved the club.
