Many years go, I organised a school football/hockey trip abroad for the kids. Staying in this hotel, one member of staff got chatting to a bloke from another school at breakfast, mentioning we were from a school in Morecambe.
The other teacher mentioned he had played at Wembley and scored for Morecambe. When this conversation was mentioned on the coach to the tournament, my ears pricked up!
It was Mally. He was a great bloke and very unassuming but very funny. Our paths crossed every night in the hotel bar after we had rounded up our kids and sent them to bed, he was chuffed to bits every night as I called him “Wembley Legend” every time.
We shared memories of the year and the final.
A few years later , at the Globe, I would imagine 2014, the 74 team were invited back and we got to interview them for the website, tragically, Mally’s son was in a car accident and passed away the night before, so we never got chance to catch up.
He was a true gent, a legend and had nothing but good to say about the Shrimps, he always looked out for the result first.
Genuinely sad at his passing, thoughts with his family.
Frisnit Frisnit!!
