Even though we have played possibly the two worst teams in the division we are already recording less than a point per game. Early days some will claim but others are now realising what has been patently obvious since pre season that we lack quality and pace throughout the squad. Today we were the worst of 2 poor teams until the last 15 mins yet prior to the game the zealots were predicting we would win based on a previous rearguard action from the previous week which was seen by management as an excellent performance against an inspired team. What a load of bollocks we made Barnet look good and please note that despite receiving rave reviews from our management last week Barnet lost again today. You will recall when we got stuffed by Notts Forest the management stated it was not that we were a poor team but that Forest were a top level team full of class; again bollocks as Forest are a poor team having a dreadfull season and getting all sorts of stick from their fans.
I am sorry but the problems are as follows:- we get absolutely nothing from the current fullbacks, the centre backs are iffy and the midfielders do not have the ability and pace (Stanley apart). There is a general lack of movement and natural speed of thought throughout the team which Mark Lillis can do nothing about. Every match we play in starts the same in that for the bulk of the first 20 mins we are defending and have difficulty playing our way into the opponents box and have to revert to our hit and hope balls. Interesting selection of Twiss as I overheard the club sec telling some people that Twiss has not impressed in the reserves and neither has the loan signing and as such could not understand why he was signed.
A word of caution for those who believe we are not in any danger of relegation and can use this season for the likes of Mcann, Parish and Carr to gain an extra yard of pace and a bucketfull more of ability! The 3 teams on minus points have already set their targets which could see at least 2 of them passing us especially if we only get 39 points. Can anyone see where the next win is coming from or am I being too negative?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, I even agree with a couple of yours, but to say our defence give nothing is laughable, whilst not having to perform to his limits and the fact that Wayne got man of the match, Dave Artell would have been a worthy winner of the award today, solid from start to finish IMO.

Personally, I think the debate on here has been far more constructive than after the Rotherham match, which mainly consisted of people posts "we're crap" or "adams has to go". People are giving reasons why they think things, which should make the whole thing less antagonistic.

I agree with quite a few of NN's posts there, which is surprising.

When, if ever? Is it going to be so far into the season that we can stop saying it's "early days" because as far as i can see it isn't early days.

NN is also right about the defence, there was too much hoof football yesterday by them and i thought Jim Bentley had an awful game. Stanley and Drummond to start in the middle next week, thought Stanners was superb when he came on, determined and looked like he had a point to prove!

Here he makes more measured observations and, as usual, at least gives his reasons for his comments.

While I don't quite share his opinions on all the individual players the one thing I will pick up on from this thread (which, again, has prompted good debate) is our general lack of forward momentum when in possession.

It seems that our fullbacks are too keen to pass sideways or lump it upfield. Our midfielders, too, seem to want to get rid of the ball as soon as they gain possession. Drummy and Garry both had positions on Saturday when they could have taken the ball ten yards forward before even thinking of having to pass but chose, instead, to stop, have a look, hold onto it, then (too often) pass sideways. Then stand still, their job apparently done.

Compare with Till (or Saunders for Daggers) who got the ball, drove forward ten yards THEN looked for the pass, before looking to get on the end of a one-two (or at least looking to get a return in a forward position).

That's what Stanners, I hope, will give us when he starts his prolonged run in the side this Saturday.

Spot on Shrimper. On Saturday the midfield up to the 60th minute were passing the ball without even looking if anyone was there to receive it.

If it wasn't for him this forum would just be like a page of classified adds in the back of a newspaper. midweek, last week half the topics were Off Topic when I looked one day! at least today I can see some FOOTBALL being talked about.

I think 10 games in is a good indication of where our season will take us. I think it's going to be a long hard season with low gates and lots of complaining from some supporters.

I'd like to address a Comment that comes up time and time again on this forum that really winds me up! I haven't got a season ticket and I very rarely travel away, mainly because I can't get to every home game and so I just pay for the ones I can get to and I don't travel away because its too expensive. This does not make me any less a supporter or my points any less valid.

Please stop using this in arguements, if it wasn't for people like me who pay every week on the gate the club would have no regular income!

Also, this forum has around 30-40 regular posters out of a home support of around 1500-2000 so how anyone can makes comments about majority or Minority feelings is beyond me!

I'm very positive, I don't think we'll be relagated for one moment, I do however want to see good football, but to be honest even if were down in the bottom 5 or so all season I'd still turn up with balloons(out of my own money) and confetti every week because I enjoy the socialising and craic at Christie. If the football is crap though I have the right to have a moan, because I'm British and it's in our Constitution!

Hunter and Drummond retained their places after coming on and being so effective against Dagenham, so on that basis, hopefully Stanley will do the same next weekend.
