Not wishing to dwell.
Have a look at the reviews at www.booking.com
Main gripe is the parking. I've stayed there before, so it's a fact.
Royal Kings Arms has guaranteed parking, and providing you're only staying for one night it's a no-brainer!!!

That's another enjoyable week behind us.
Westgate Caravan Park was excellent.
35' x 12' caravan.
£195 for the week.
Great value.
Two weeks next time.

Kings Arms was better than expected.
No problem parking.
Pleasant staff, all locals which makes a change these days.
Big room (Meeting House Lane side), on 4th floor, overlooking Lancaster Castle.
Lovely breakfast, in that wonderful old dining room.
£36, bargain of the century 8-)

I shall wait for this in writing to make sure it's not a cock and bull story

If you want to listen to a real cock and bull story stop off at Stony Stratford (nr Milton Keynes) on you way down.

Is there anywhere you don't know about?

The Cock Hotel a 15th Century coaching inn rose to national pre-eminence in the great age of coach travel, with as many as 100 coaches a day coming into the town. The Cock Hotel was the official staging post for the famous Manchester Flier, which took a 25-minute stop at The Cock Hotel. The time allowed for lunch at the Cock was 25 minutes, so passengers had to eat fast. One of them, on more than one occasion, was Charles Dickens, who based Mr Turveydrop in Bleak House on a local dancing instructor, Joseph Hambling (or is that another cock and bull story?). Other travellers staying at the hotel and The Bull opposite vied with each other in the telling of outrageous 'tales of the road', from whence the famous phrase 'Cock and Bull story' derives. Today the hotel is very popular with locals and travellers alike and is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and great hospitality. Large car park

When I worked for the FCO I did a few couses near there at a place called Hanslope Park.
Stony Stratford was the obvious run-ashore.
Told a few, heard a few

...and that's what social history is all about.
Walk up either side of that main drag and spot the chippie...coz there ain't one.
And if you're still on your twinklies when all else has shut, then avoid the last kebab shop
