I have no memory of a Darren Hughes. When was it? Anytime between September 2001 & April 2007 and I won't actually seen them.

Sorry too many to disagree with there. Matthew Gregoire was easily the worst keeper we've ever had - opposition keeper scored against him; threw the ball in the back of his own net twice; etc. etc.

Mark Shirley, as Freez said, is simply a scandalous decision. Held the ball up extraordinarily well and had so much more to his game.

Also Mark Cerealo, while he didn't set the world on fire, on his day he was a decent player who was often played as a lone front man. The goal he scored away at Stevenage to spoil their promotion party, was a belter. In my opinion a better forward than say Phil Eastwood, Jason Walker or Ryan Sugden who aren't the worst I've seen.

It was a spur of the moment thought, of course we have had "poorer" players but those in other posts were either on loan or never got a chance, this lot played reasonably regularly.

Mark, you will remember him, c1998.

And of course, do you remember Tony Hughes' classic own goal!?

As its so long ago I can't remember the names of the players we had following the mass exodus of players following Joe Woj to Colne, but during the late 1980's we had some pretty average performers to say the least.

Although everybody has their own opinion and period of time when considering the worst players they have seen I think it pretty harsh to include the likes of Mark Shirley, Rigoglioso, Kenny Takano, Paul Comstive and Ban Lavelle in the worst players line up.

The one thing that everybody who remembers far enough back can seem to agree on is that Alan Morgan was in a class of his own.

It was quite possibly one of the best own goals I've ever seen ;) As for Darren Hughes, he was evidently so bad that I've removed him from my memory banks ;)

Hughes, of the Darren, variety (season 1997/98) was dire. Abysmal.

Anyone remember Steve Foley in season 1995/96 (our first in the Conference ???)

Now he WAS desperately bad ........ A Stoke City legend apparently though !!

If you're being pedantic, it's Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb.

Yeah Darren Hughes would have to be there. I remember a particular bad game of his against Alty away.

I'll go for Peter Withers in midfield, and if my memory serves me right Mickey Waller at centre back

Worst player ever for me is someone who came down from league football and whose name I foget from around 1987. He played on the right wing but was the worst crosser of the ball ever. Every run he made down the right would end in utter failure.

In an FA Cup Qualifying match (round 3, I think) against Bishop Auckland, we'd gone 2 - 0 down and with 10 minutes left Frank Gamble pulled one back. It was an all out assault on the Bishops goal (current home end) when they had cleared the ball and with about 2 minutes to go tried to make a bit of a suicidal attack (good old amateur footy) leaving themselves open at the back. Our heroic player picked up the ball on the right and ran down the touchline, totally unopposed, with Gamble and at least 2 others steaming into the box for a certain goal. His monent to shine had come at last, after some recent shocking performances, but instead of a simple cross for a tap in goal, he somehow managed to slice the ball, with his right foot, over the terrace and into the car park. I remember him getting the worst abuse of any home player I've seen then and since. He wasn't on the books for much longer after that match.

Wish I could remember his name, but then again, expunging it from memory might be a good thing.

I was going to mention King.....Peter wasn't it? Left us half-way through the season we got promoted to the conference. Terrible. I think he ended up at Lancaster via Fleetwood. I would have been around 8 at the time, being dragged along by my dad to the occasional game and even with limited interest in football at that age, I still remember him being pretty gash.

R.R.W...i was 10 when we got promoted to the conference and Peter King was no worse than John McMahon, Mark Hilditch, Paul Rushton (who imo got better as his mfc career progressed), and to a certain extent, John McNally. All of whom played in that promotion season, so i wouldn't say they were terrible, just not good enough to play every week.

So too was Daz, but i think he was injured for the large part.
