2 points currently separating the bottom 6! Most results not going our way but it looks very tight now!

What a finish to the games today....

Crewe 3 Carlisle 2 (Crewe score 2 goals in 94 and 97 minutes)

Swindon 3 Colchester 2 (Swindon score winner in 98th minute)

Accrington 3 Grimsby 2

Morecambe 2 Tranmere 0

Harrogate 0 Salford 2

Table as it stands....

Swindon 24 points
Accrington 22 points
Tranmere 22 points
Harrogate 22 points
----------------------
MORECAMBE 20 points
Carlisle 18 points

Fixtures at the weekend

TRANMERE v CARLISLE
Notts County v SWINDON
Barrow v HARROGATE
Newport v MORECAMBE
Colchester v ACCRINGTON

Would be lovely if Notts County , Barrow and Colchester all win on Saturday
Maybe Tranmere v Carlisle to draw

Dackers worked hard today and put great cross in for the opening goal... Think there is something there with him

He seems to put a decent cross in so maybe play him wide

Dackers as a number 10, with Slew at 9?
Or, Tollitt at 9 because he can get into goal scoring positions?

Regardless, Dackers has created two in the last three games, but not had a shot on target in the last... ...actually, I can't remember his last shot on target... There is something in there, but I don't think it's as a forward. He's skilful for a big lad, and he works hard.

I'd be more surprised if he wasn't leaving. Good luck to the lad, hope he gets his career back on track somewhere else.

Massive 3 points today. My first home league win since March. Let's hope we can get a signing or two in for another six pointer at Newport. Big opportunity for every player to get a game at Stamford bridge too

Great result and a gutsy performance. Yann Songo’o was my man of the match and is still a massive player for us. Ben Tollitt was great in the first half, White is becoming Mr Consistent and even Dackers is showing promise with his second assist in two games.

Could be a big three points.

Appreciate the imagination, but I think that's unlikely to work sadly!

Tollitt's not someone who regularly gets into goalscoring positions in the box - he's a skilful player with lots of flair and has a very good strike on him. His goals (Barrow aside) are more to do with that, rather than nous/predatory instinct.

Not keen on Slew at CF either. He's generally not been very effective there and I don't think he does a great job with his back to goal down the middle of the pitch. In fact, that's always something which is important to remember - it's such a different game playing in the centre with your back to goal and a couple of meaty CBs wrestling you, to playing out wide where you've got a smaller (but more nimble) defender and a bit more space to stand the ball up and face your opponent.

I really am starting to get the feeling that Dackers started life as a winger but got moved to CF due to his height. He's got a good delivery on him and seems more comfortable facing up to an opponent and towards goal, instead of having his back to goal and trying to roll/play on the turn. Would also help explain his lack of predatory goalscoring instinct and hesitancy around getting on the end of crosses.

I think we ultimately do just need a new CF who can do the physical/hold-up stuff and also show a bit more instinct to chip in with a few goals. That said, the last couple of games have, for me, shown that there still can be a role in the squad for Dackers - someone who can cause a bit of chaos up top if needed or potentially even offer a different kind of threat out wide.

Anyway, great stuff today. Songo'o was fantastic - a real battling and dominant captain's performance capped off with a goal. We're in touching distance of a few teams now. Good bit of January business and the task ahead seems much more surmountable than it did after the Bromley defeat.

A great captains game, he lead his players with a good battling performance, leading from the front including the important opening goal.

For me White was our player of the match, if he had shot once or twice from the edge of the box, it would have capped a great performance, let the odd one go lad.

Now Edward’s back in the team we look better, he is a genuine threat (playing in a higher league would be no bother to him) and because of that most of the time the opposition are weary of him, they are occupied by stoping him and therefore with them watching him, our other midfielders took control of a lot of the game.

I’ve just listened to Dereks interview Charlie is going, so with Harrack going as well two wages being saved. The downside is the cost of bringing in players of a decent calibre. No mention of other funds today, but Derek has said he’s been given money for January, let’s hope it’s enough. Didn’t seem to be in a hurry to bring players in it’s about the right ones.

With both Williams and Dackers playing today I’m hopeful they are staying, they both played well today, both a good couple of notches above some of their performances.

It was a happy New Years Day.

no offence to dakkers he worked very hard yesterday maybe needs to go down a bit easier with the pulling etc to see where that gets us - however im reading a lot of comments about his cross for the first goal

that was never a cross he hit it full blooded it was a shot going well wide that songo managed to get his head too
lets not get carried away here

But not a screamer!!

I could kick a ball harder than that as a twelve yr old, an old leather casey!! (that’s a lace up leather ball with a pigs bladder inside, for you youngsters out there, Think of a medicine ball if it was a wet day and you not far off).

From behind the goal near the corner flag it was more of a curler than a full blooded shot and it didn’t have great pace so Songo’o was in a position to get on the end of it. (Yes, you’re right it was going wide). Looked good from my angle, much better than when I watched it on You-tube this morning.

Dackers looked up, loads of players in the middle and Songo’o in a position at the far post to get on the end of it.
(If it had been an old casey, he would still have a headache this morning  ).

What is really good about the game is how many different MotM nominations there have been. Sponsors gave it to Stott. No real argument as he was solid and got a goal. I thought Tutonda was MotM, great defesive play, and excellent getting forwards. At least two others mentioned in this thread. Good team performance.

What confounds me is the number of crosses into the box which no one gets on the end of. It's as if they are frightened to go for it.

It was more, if Dackers was playing somewhere else, then who up front? I'd agree my suggestions were "imaginative" (or 'desperate'???) but based on the players we currently have, who is instinctively able to finish?

We need a 'number 9'.

Saul? Is he fit?

That is a pet peeve of mine regarding Dackers… he gets fouled all game but never goes down or appeals to the ref for anything! Might sound silly but it’s just a fact that if you don’t appeal, the ref will just assume there’s no foul. I know that Dackers used to pull the defenders shirt a lot but he seems to have stopped doing that and he still gets nothing when he’s repeatedly hauled around.
