That is Alan Coultas, known as scrotum or bungalow Al for obvious reasons!
Heaven knows why we were all so elated,we got a 0-0 draw at Bootham Crescent, York then in the top 4 of League 1. They won the replay at Maine Road (Crusty deemed not up to it) and went on to beat Arsenal!
Jimmy Thornton missed the best chance of the game, a one on one buy show straight at the keeper!

The lad on the far right who only just got his face in the picture is definately John (Reggae) Anderton & the lad with his mouth wide open in shear joy is Neil Fell.

Fantastic photo Alan "Scrote" would have been 18 then and Neil Fell I spotted a mile off. Recognise a few other faces from school though, Heysham High, but can't put name to them. Cheers for photo.

Very happy memories. For us to hold league opposition away from home, and in Yarkshire, back then was a hell of a feat - and we should have won !! Don't remember much about the replay except that both sets of fans were in the same stand separated by a few rows of empty seats, so there was a bit of banter going on. I remember in a quiet moment a Morecambe fan shouting "Joe Wozi-whatsits red & white army", it was hilarious !!

It was a good game from the bit I can remember. The weather was cold and wet and I paid a pound extra for a seat and cover. Quite a few people were ejected throughout the match, but they weren't the regular 300-400 Morecambe fans. Couldn't go for a drink afterwards as the police escorted the coaches away pronto. No heating in the bus and I ended up with flu for two weeks after.

and the replay was awful for fans. Around 1000 fans in total sat almost together in 1 stand in a ground which had a capacity of around 36,000. Bit like being at Darlington but worse  We were hearded around and there was some of the usual 1980's fighting in the car park afterwards. They tried to get the game played at Preston but for what ever reason they couldn't assist us. Oh happy days :?

I actually obtained many, many years ago a copy of the next home game programme York played after the Morecambe game in 1985/86 season which I purchased from our old Programme Shop that used to be in the Christie end.

I only purchased it in the hope there might have been some photo's in the issue of the Cup Match (which there were), but in his managerial notes, then York manager Dennis Smith gave some of the York "fans" a real slating for their behaviour towards us Morecambe followers and how they had brought disgrace upon their club. I still have the programme somewhere. I think it was York v Brentford.

I'm also sure that the late Keith Walwyn (later Blackpool and Carlisle) was in the York squad for both the games.

Yeah, was a great little shop that. And a MUST visit pre-match and at half time to rummage through the (lets face it) damp and musty boxes of old programmes !

I think Ian and his brother left Morecambe and went to live down in Dover i think ?

I've got an old gem in front of me as I tap.
Home programme, Saturday 4 September 1999.
Photo of the opposition is interesting, especially their captain.
Mint condition.
