Another for the don't buy Jordan Connertons

Further to the thread I can't find along the lines of 'semi-pro forwards just can't cut it at a higher level'.

Charlie Austin at Swindon signed from Wessex Premier League side Poole Town and bagged 18 goals so far in just 27 appearances.

From a club with a reputation for developing its own, we now appear to have opted for 'experience'.

We have too much to lose by not having a good proportion of experienced players in the squad.

I have seen a fair amount of reserves games this season and none of the younger players look outstanding IMHO.

It will be interesting to see how Connerton goes on, will he be another Neil Harvey ?

Super Pompey bought Guy Whittingham out of the Army a few years ago. He was a sensation.

I agree HS BUT the future of any club will depend on the development of its Youth Policy which we appear to have lost of late.

Gone for the moment, are the days of home grown talent who have forged a relatively successful career in the league ie Thommo; Gaz; Drummy; Wayne; Perks.

We do need experience but we also need to see Youth being developed.

Are you secretly Aaron Taylor's agent? You're about the only person who thinks he's any good right now.

That's a bit cruel.....

After all, he's not been given an opportunity this season....

I am nobody agent haha just a cook in weatherspoon just think he is a nice lad to chat to and that has has not had much opportunity to shine this season because of a nasty injury and is now hoping to be back .
I dont see what is so wrong in giving him a 1 year deal and send him on loan so he gain experience.

Didn't they turn down a couple of bids for him this season? Wanting big money for him evidently.

Gateshead made an undisclosed five-figure bid for Brodie last May, but this was rejected by York. He signed a new two-year contract with York in June 2009, which contracted him at the club until June 2011.
scores pens can play on the left wing had a loan spell with Barrow in 2008 when he needed it
played in both our play off games
im sure mr panther could give a report or two to Sammy and Mark looks a good prospect 6 foot 3 only 22 interested Peterborough at one time too

May I refer the honourable gentleman to my first post on Mr Brodie in April 2009 and subsequent posts on the matter in the summer of 2009.

No, it was the interest this season I was thinking of. Grimsby inquired in January and it prompted one York fan to say:

"Look I'll save any clubs wanting to try and buy him. Come in with an offer of about half a million and the York board will consider it.

Come in with a bid of 50k and you'll get laughed at."

Not that he speaks for the York board, of course, But I believe Grimsby's verbal offer was in the 50k region.

Interesting thread that, particularly the parts about Aaron Taylor. One year on the same question marks still hang over him.

It is an interesting thread to go back over, particularly give the names mentioned.

Besides my mention of Brodie there was:

Ryan Lowe - Bury
Steve Morison - Millwall now
Richie Partridge - Stockport County

and of course your own contribution Glynn Hurst - now at Hyde United. Can't win 'em all, eh? ;) *

* Sorry - open net. Had to do it.

Luton have good center forwards on book that could play higher tier football.
And i like the young lad from Swindon town who is now being linked with a transfer to Leeds United funny because Swindon are in a strong position to go up in 2ND place and Leeds will lose in playoffs if Leeds even get a playoff spot with there awful run of results recently.

As assistant manager though, seemingly I ignored his ancient 33 years when I made the suggestion. Look at everybody crowing about how good Taylor was going to be this season. Computer says no!

And if there weren't so many imports in our domestic game then there would be a lot more home-grown talent playing in the Football League.
Glad you didn't describe yourself as a chef at Wetherspoons ;)
