It wont be finished until 2014 at the earliest so like me you will have to suffer Carlisle Bridge for some time yet.

According to the NOTICE issued yesterday it's June this year...

II.2.1) Total quantity or scope: Lancashire County Council is seeking to
establish a select list of contractors to tender for the construction of
Heysham to M6 Link Road including associated highway and bridge/structural
works. The works consist of the construction of a link road between the
already built length of A683 Heysham to M6 Link, at its junction with the
A589 Morecambe Road near Torrisholme and a fully remodelled junction 34 on
the M6 motorway near Halton. The route is a 4.8 km long two-lane dual
carriageway all-purpose road with intermediate junctions and a combined
footway/cycleway along its full length. The scheme includes alterations to
the local road network including existing junctions. There will be a
requirement to construct 23 major structures including bridges over the
West Coast Mainline railway, Lancaster Canal and the River Lune. A park
and ride site is included at the M6 Junction 34 and there will be a
dedicated bus lane along Caton Road into the city centre. The estimated
cost of the works is in the order of 100 000 000 GBP at current prices.

II.3) DURATION OF THE CONTRACT OR TIME-LIMIT FOR COMPLETION: Starting:
15.6.2009. Completion: 15.12.2012.

There was someone from one of the lobby groups on Radio Lancs yesterday saying that the LCC had not yet compulsarily purchased some of the land needed for the road and that they would try hold up proceedings with legal challenges.

THey can try whatever they like. All it would do is delay the inevitable. They may as well just admit the defeat they had about 12 months ago!

Carlisle Bridge? Last time i looked it was trains that went over there not cars.

Any guesses on the final cost? In 2005 the cost was put at £85 million now i see that has gone up to £137 million. Anyway i better get my compensation claim sent off. Although i wont be able to see the bypass from where i live, i like everyone else anywhere near where the byapss will go has got a letter from a firm of solicitors wanting to pursue a claim so i have nothing to lose and might as well get it sent off to see if i can get a few quid.

Don't forget while this road is being built between 2011 - 2014 there will be no Junction 34 northbound so its gridlock at Galgate and congestion in Carnforth. Happy motoring!!

we've had the public inquiry already. the objection period isn't for the planning application it's for the compulsory purchase orders. no doubt the greens and mbi's will club together again and try for another judicial review, but it's coming and from my personal point of view thats a great thing.
