They deserve it as well. Easily the most consistent officials at the tournament. If Darren Cann was at the Globe each week I wouldn't question his judgement, world class.

Was just reading that on the Beeb news site. Great achievement to them.

If that ref on Tuesday night had slightly better eyesight than Stevie Wonder then Van Bommel would have been red carded just before Van Bronkhorst scored that 35 yard goal.

I was disappointed when Germany's Thomas Muller had a one match ban for the semi.
He'd had 2 yellows (including one for an innocuous handball) and got a one match ban.
I'm not suggesting that Germany would have beaten Spain with Muller, but they definately couldn't beat them without him.

Then there's Van Bommel.
He appears to have a special dispensation to foul. Against both Brazil and Uruguay he should have got red.
When he did eventually get a yellow against Uruguay it was his mouth that got his name in the book. Gobbing-off at the ref finally caught him.
He has the gift of getting away with persistent acts of destruction intended to disrupt the opposition's rhythm.
Every successful team needs a Van Bommell apparently! What I can't work out is how people like him get away with it.
