Barrow Director Tony Keen - A quote that made me chuckle

Postby Peperami no. 1 » Thu Jan 07, 2010 7:52 pm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/barrow/8446217.stm

Final Paragraph: -

"There's no point having the best team in the North West when the ground it's playing in isn't up to scratch. We have to keep our eyes on everything."

Clearly unaware of our presence and move away from Christie Park! Suggest he needs to get better at that keeping our eyes on everything.

I think he must mean best "non-league" team in the North West. That means he's arguing that Barrow are better than Altrincham , Southport etc.

Let's be fair though, Barrow have taken 8,000+ to consecutive FA Cup away games. Would we? I very much doubt it. If Barrow had the same sort of investment and stewardship that we have enjoyed over the last decade they probably would be at the same level as us, if not higher.

to be fair, from reading the whole article, the point he is making is about sustainability and how he and the other directors are investing in the whole infrastructure of the club. he is not saying that barrow are the best team in the north west (!) just that there's no point in investing all their income from cup runs on players with a view to gaining promotion if they don't have the infrastructure to back it up.

pretty sensible stuff really, and a similiar approach to PmG surely?
