Might be your opinion (based on what you know of him), but not a fact.

Not being funny, but I prefer to leave it up to the management to decide.

If you listened to one or two well respected Southport fans, Duffy is a donkey. Not from what I have seen. I think he could become one of the most exciting players we have seen here. It is down to the coaching and the environment surely?

Going further, pre season means nothing as an indication to how we will fare come the start of the season. We have been here many times before and the more times I see pre season, the more I realise it is all about trying new guys (that we wont see again in 90% of cases) and getting match fit without getting injured. This is the time just to enjoy watching without worrying.

On tonights performance the chances Nick Chadwick had he could have had at least a couple of goals maybe more
id like to see him start with Aaron upfront on saturday
if i was to nominate a starting 11 for saturday id go with this one

thing i like about Chadwick he's capable of playing a loan striker role, and then you could have players like Duffy Wainwright Stanley and Twissy playing off him

4-2-3-1

---------------Roche---------------
-------------------------------------
Moss---McStay---Bentley---Wilson
-------------------------------------
--------Drumond---Hudson--------
-------------------------------------
----Duffy-----Stanley-----Twiss----
--------------------------------------
--------------Chadwick--------------

The mix up was Henry and another defender 2 yards outside the box Sean (we were in line) , I think Danny A? Roche was well back on his 6 yard line, for me not his fault at all!

As CC says Henry had a nightmare in a right back position in the 1st half and their No.9 Chris Amardi looked VERY impressive, he ran our defenders ragged throughout the 1st 45.

Southport seemed to shoot at will, something we seem still not to want to do, and Barry had to touch it over the bar on a couple of occasions. Duffy was out wide right unmarked as if they were asking us to pass it to him for most of the half. when he received the ball he was surrounded and, for me, rarely got past his man and he seemed to settle for crossing it early but as yet he aint got Beckhams boot! - but time will come I think he's a star in the making :D

2nd half was much improved and the home team seem to run out of steam as we passed the ball better. Duffy started to play more central and to more effect. Stanners was full of steam throughout and had a blistering run late on only to shoot slightly wide. Larry also came on well towards the hour mark and showed some impressive wing work.

Having been despondent at half time things look brighter - but we need to shoot :!:

He was a streaker wearing clothes! the stewards watched him creep back into the terrace and caught up with him. This seemed to annoy the hell out of one steward who proceeded to come into the stand to wind a particular gentleman up  the look on Jimbos face was a picture  Glad to hear your recovery is ahead of time Sir James ;)

The thing that struck me about Southport's ground on my last visit was the lack of cover, apart from the main stand and a tiny shed at one end. is it still like that? It was freezing that day.

Sorry Mark but the fact is he has scored 18 league goals in 121 games in 9 years :!: He is a lovely guy and a talented footballer but he can't score goals which is a strikers main job. I was expecting someone to reply with the 'he scored tonight'. Quite correct and he even created the penalty I believe BUT as I have previously said he has a history of scoring in the early stages at a club and then fades out. I'm not against the guy and if we sign him then I'll support him but I've seen him play enough times to know he is not the goal scorer that Morecambe need and I really think we'll struggle for goals if we sign him. Totally agree though that pre-season means nothing and is for trying out out different players/formations but I don't think NC is any better than what we already have.

id say he's capable of getting more goals for Morecambe in a season than what Wayne Curtis could in L2, and if i had my way he would be making room for Chadiwck

Chaps - stats can mean a lot but don't tell the whole picture.

Wayne has a goals to games ratio that is significantly better than Chadwick's, even though Chadwick has pretty much played as a central striker most of this career and Wayne has been pushed about all over the place.

But Wayne's goalscoring record is also better than that of Emile Heskey and you could argue that Chadwick is a player in the Heskey mould, big target man who occupies defenders, doesn't bag many himself but opens up defences so his strike partner can.

I saw bits of a partnership working with Larkin the other night so maybe....

But as I keep saying, they'd have to be SIGNIFICANTLY and obviously better than Wayne, Aaron and Twissy or I'd rather us stick with what we've got and perhaps look for a loan or two.

Last night we lere urging Morecambe players to shoot The conditions were ideal for any speculative shot. Along came Mr. Chadwick 2 yards outside the "D" with a volley that crossed the touchline just outside the penalty area  From then on Nobby, due to your comments, we were counting down to his tenth which was on target :D

most of Waynes goals have been accumulated in the Conference.

Do any statos out there have Waynes goals to games ratio since we joined the football league ?

... and some of Chadwick's games were at a higher level.. this is the point I'm making, you sometimes have to look behind the bare stats.

Thing is Wayne was probably THE main striker in the Conference. In the League he has played here, there and everywhere!

07/08 16 starts + 18 as a substitute - 2 goals

08/09 19 starts + 8 as sub - 5 goals

I really hope I'm wrong and you lot can quote me on my comments and I'll be the first to appologise but I have a bad feeling about all this and personally as things stand I'd prefer a couple of league 1/2 proven scorers on loan for a season. His previous 25 league games were 10 in league 2 and 15 for Hereford in league 1 and he scored 3 (1 penalty). I'm sorry but strikers are assessed on stats (goals).
By the way Curtis has scored 7 in the football league for Morecambe in 2 seasons and considering how many games he has played I don't think that is too bad however Wayne is only good enough as a sub now.

Wayne was mainly used as a left winger in the last 3 seasons or so when we were in the Conference.

I'm probably old fashioned in my views about players playing in different positions but for me a centre forward should play as a centre forward and not out wide. That would apply throughout the team.

I actually think Wayne does better on the wing than when he played CF he used to be a bit slow and not very mobile unless the ball landed right at his feet for a shot he couldn't do much else. On the wing he gets to cut in with the ball already at his feet and line himself up for a shot.
