Fantastic game. Wonder if they'll be allowed to defend it should they get relegated?

I hope they bring the top few Conference clubs back into the competition - it's ridiculous the situation at the moment where loads of teams get bye's through the first round! At least that would allow Luton to defend their title, and mean that everybody gets a first round match!

As far as i'm aware if you get relegated and win the jpt it's tough luck, maybe the FA will look at this and think, "well, to be fair, we're the reason you haven't qualified for it this year."

Good game, and a good advert for the lower league game. I'm pleased for Luton, especially after the way they were shafted off the Football League.

How seriously do the Football League thinks the top League 1 clubs take this competition??? And what's wrong with the precedent anyway?

So how did that work out then?

I think they take it very seriously. Can't knock a Wembley appearance can you? Scunthorpe were in it last time out against Luton, and they were promoted to the Championship.

I think the FL perspective is that if, say, Scunthorpe had won it and then got promoted to the Championship, they'd be odds on favourites for the trophy again given their squad strengthening for the Championship and that would always be the case for a promoted club. That means there's less chance of a smaller club winning it, which, I suppose, is the idea. That said, if the winners of the trophy go the other way and are relegated, I don't think that same scenario of the team being stronger in the Championship would apply so it does seem a shame. Then again, serves them right for being relegated. If you go down, (or up) you don't qualify, simple as that!

They made their bed and they had to lie in it. I've no sympathy for them.
