O/T Recording direct from a Sony TV

O/T Recording direct from a Sony TV

Postby redrobo » Mon Feb 10, 2025 9:48 pm

We've currently recording onto our BT TV Box but have had replacements over the last 12 months as there appears to be problem with getting a signal via an ethernet connection and the box frequently dying on us. We have now decided to look at alternatives to record direct from Tv onto a recordable device

Would welcome some input from fellow SVers to rid us of the BT TVBox.

Thanks.

Is this a 'SMART TV'?

RTFM, but you should probably be able to connect an external hard-drive. Buy one that is 1 TB. Probably be about £50. Make sure it has a connection that your TV has, probably standard USB.

Be aware, (as far as I know), once a portable hard drive is formatted to a SMART TV, programmes you record on it can not be used on another TV, the formatting makes it unique to that TV. If you plug it into another TV, it will need to be formatted again. Certainly most TV's this is the case, and I think it is always.

So how did that work out then?

My Son in Law has suggested a high capacity Flash Drive Memory Stick as we don't record a lot just the odd programme on a different channel. We don't record films as we have an Amazon Sick that gives us all the entertainment we need.

Someone also suggested we dump BT TV Box and get an Amazon one in its place... :?: :?: :?:

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice.

Either a hard drive or flash drive will do the same thing. Also, on most TV's HD or FD will allow you to pause live TV.
