Further signings prior to the window closing ?

With our tiny budget, you have to say Derek has done quite well in the window. Now time to roll up our sleeves and get down to grinding out some wins. UTS

We play 9 teams that are in the bottom 12 of the league, so we need a good return out of those games. Then we need some results ‘grinding out’ as you say out of the other 9, a few of them are having a bad time, so there’s hope there.

We also have 10 of the 18 games at home, so home form is also pivotal.

We have renewed hope and a squad that will get an uplift so let’s hope they can continue were they left off on Sat at Newport and get that back to back wins, especially as the game after that is Notts County away, but then we have 3 home games.

If we can get over 30+ points by then, with 13 to go, it’s a good way to the points total we need.

Imo there's always been a fair chance that our home form would turn around. After Boxing Day, we'd played the rest of the bottom six all away from home. Our home fixtures were objectively 'tougher' in the first half of the season. That said, it now means our away fixtures will be tougher. Hopefully we can keep cracking on at home and manage to nick the odd win/point on the road.

Onto the signing of Garner, I think this indicates that the system Derek deployed (or thereabouts) on Saturday is here to stay mostly. It'll need plenty of legs to keep the pressing up as the danger will be teams getting past the front line and having an easy time overwhelming our midfield. Wonder if that's part of the logic in getting Garner in - another half decent player we can chuck on/rotate to keep legs fresh.

If we're going ahead with this system, my lasting concern in terms of personnel is attacking midfield. Beyond Cooke, I think we're pretty limited for options - could be an issue if he needs resting/gets injured. Hopefully we can sneak somebody in, but not much time left.

We are at Newport tomorrow not Sat

Not massively impressed with the Garner signing, he looked very average last season but I'm hoping that's down to Ged's awful tactics and Derek has a plan to get the best out of him. He's probably no worse than the striking options we went into the window with so it's a signing that can't hurt I guess.

It will be very interesting to see what formation Derek goes with tonight and which of our numerous strikers start.

Same team same tactics, see how it goes. Just got to hope Saturdays goals were not a one off.
