Bizarre and somewhat over-dramatic thread to read back over.
Carlisle started quickly out the blocks but once we rode that wave of pressure, we very much grew into the game and ended the first half the stronger side. They caused us a bit of trouble down our right with Mellish etc but we made good use of the space it left going the other way, with Tollitt having a fair bit of joy.
Second half we kept kicking on and were well worthy of our lead in the end. Great bit of play from Dackers to skin Lavelle (mental that people booed him, utterly bizarre) and a little touch of class from Edwards (he's been missed!) to get control of the ball and tuck it away.
Thought Carlisle had a bit of a reaction to the red and we seemed to start panicking and losing a grip, but after about 10 mins took back control. Four Carlisle shots in that second half, with zero on target. In fact, they only had one shot on target all game (good save from Burgoyne). After that sitter in the first few minutes, Carlisle created very little while we looked a threat and had a number of decent chances.
Some interesting little bits from the first half of our season. In the five games we've played against other bottom six sides, we've managed 10 points! That's a great record. On the flip side though - the highest placed team we've beaten is Barrow (17th), and we've only managed two points against teams in the top half. Hopefully a bit of extra quality in January will allow us to compete better with those top half sides and have us sneak a few more points against them. Our record against the bottom third is good, even performance wise as well - only time we've really been second best against such sides was our massive off-day against Accrington.
