Going Down?

Going Down?

It's a real psychological boost to be outside of the relegation places, even if only on Goal Difference, and obviously, we still have a long way to go. But I've just been on the Swindon message board, and ended up feeling depressed for them! This post in particular:

My 20 year old son texted me and said “dad, we are shit and going down”.

When I was 20 we were in the premier league!

What a difference 30 years makes :-(

It's easy to forget quite how far some clubs have slid, while for us, it has been generally upwards for the last thirty+ years. In 1993/94 Swindon and Morecambe were both in the Premier League. While still had another season of Northern Premier League before we'd get our first promotion. We were playing Horwich and Matlock, while Swindon were playing Man Utd & Liverpool.

In that same season, Tranmere finished in the League One [now Championship] play-offs, trying to get promoted to the Premier League.

Carlisle & Swindon are currently the bottom two, but both were top flight teams within my life time.

As I say, we've a long way to go, but when you look around for two teams who are worse than us, those two are actually pretty big scalps. Hopefully, we will be able to pull clear of them before the January transfer window.

So how did that work out then?
