We're skint but......

We're skint but......

I keep hearing we are skint and so won't be bringing in any new players in January. If this is correct it's madness. It's clear that the present squad is not good enough for league 1 and we need a couple of players to strengthen it. If we don't bring in players we will obviously be relegated at a greater cost than bringing in a couple of new players. In league 2 gates will be lower as the improvement in home gates this year is because of the better football in League 1. Presumably our share of the League handout will be less for League 2 clubs and with less money we will struggle to bring in loan players which has bolstered the squad in the last couple of seasons. There would also be the danger of the team continuing to slide next season and even getting relegated into the National League once more. I believe we should find the cash to improve the current squad to try and stave off relegation and the financial consequences. Imo doing nothing is not an option!

The only people who can make that decision and put money in are the owners (current or future). The Board, management, Derek, etc are helpless.

It's purely a business decision for the owners, as to whether they want to put more money in to hope for staying in L1 or to accept relegation. They have access to the figures for each scenario, they have their own "business plan" as to what they want from the club etc. They may not want to risk putting more money in if we're going to get relegated anyway as that's just wasted money. They may be happy with what they've already got out of the club and what they'll get from current offers to sell and/or relegation finances.

The board, staff, supporters, etc are merely bystanders really.

It will be interesting to see the team that starts tonight for any clues about players leaving to make room in the budget for new players.

Will O'Connor , Stockton , Fane , even Mayor figure in the game ? Or will they be moving to leave room for some re-inforcements such as Songo'o etc

Let's face it, we have no idea what our owners real intentions were in buying MFC or their thoughts are now we are facing a return to L2. It's unlikely though they actually have any money to invest. I think our best hope is that a sale is imminent and the current owners can do so finacial gymnastics to give Derek enough to invest in 2-3 better players to keep us up.
