Freez and Glen

Why aren't they commentating the games this year on iFollow? Loved their commentary and goofy personalities during the promotion season, one of the big reasons I buy the season pass every year and became a morecambe fan from overseas

Back in August, the club agreed a deal with brilliant local station Beyond Radio for the exclusive commentary rights for our games this season. I have to admit I was skeptical when I first saw the announcement but I want to put it on record how much I think Dave, Matt and Ryan have done an excellent job so far this season.

The whole club had to be raised to League One level and the commentary & media side of the club certainly has been now. Dave’s managed to get on special guests to co-commentate like Jon Obika and pundit Gab Sutton and the Shrimps Verdict podcast after every game has been another brilliant addition, especially the opposition preview with an opposition expert each episode.

Freez is the host of the ShrimpsTrust podcast (another fantastic new addition as well!) so I’d recommend you give them a watch/listen if you have the time!

I wouldn’t go as far as to say beyond radio have done a brilliant job, they do ok, still sound like hospital radio
With Dave Salmon “# let’s get that trending,” why does he keep saying this ?? Is he trying to get down with the kids,? I haven’t heard any saying # and trending every other word,
I find myself turning to radio accy for little update instead of listening to his drivel,
At least Freez and Glen were lighthearted told it how it is,and have a massive in-depth knowledge of all things football ( and biscuits :D)

It is completely different. It is more 'professional', in as much as it is more like a professional commentary. But that, in itself, is exactly what you get tuning in to any commentary, on any station, anywhere. The 'chatting to your mates in the pub' style was unique to Morecambe FC and because of the style, it encouraged interaction with listeners, which the current format doesn't. Also, Freez would look in here on match days too, so there was more interaction & opinions.

From a purely commentary perspective, it has improved. From a 'match day experience', it has lost something. Not saying one is right, the other is wrong, just distinctly different.

So how did that work out then?

I like the banished to the terraces idea Andy!! :D
Thank you for the appreciative comments, after twelve seasons of us building up IFollow, the club decided to go in a different direction, and as has been said , we are back in the home end.
And I have to say, it’s been brilliant.
The IFollow brand was set up as IPlayer many seasons ago now, and it’s tag line was “by fans, for fans” which we always used as our baseline.
All the kind people who have texted in over the years and indulged us with our quirky style and approach, we loved doing it, it was a privilege. And to those who always liked a more traditional style but stuck with us, thanks.
It has gone a bit more mainstream but it’s defo more polished, Up the Shrimps, Bartercard here we come!!

The commentary was class. Definitely missed. The new ifollow commentary hardly ever works, and when it does it's okay, the worst one was Burton when the efl "expert" gab Sutton or whatever he's called, kept calling Greg Leigh, Greg Lay.

Both totally different. Personally I got a bit bored of listening to the same guys every week, but Freez and Glen were a bit different. It would nice to have them back as guest commentators every now and then. That said, I am normally at the ground, so it's really only the exiles who can judge this season

Freez and Glen certainly kept things interesting when there were no fans in the ground, their style certainly leant itself to decent engagement from the fans and for me it felt like we were all together in a way. Can understand why the club decided to go in a different direction but they're certainly missed.

I thought the two of 'em where excellent and did our club proud. :D

However a number of cretins at other clubs particularly those South of Watford couldn't understand their humour and unique approach to commentating.

A number of them referred to them as being Morecambe and Wise which for me was an insult considering some of the boring and predictable crap that we had to put up with from other clubs...

Sadly missed but we now live in different times... ;) ;) ;)

“Couldn’t trap a wet bag of cement.”
“He’s got a head like a sheriff’s badge.”
“I’ve seen milk turn faster.”

I can assure you the Freez brand of commentary is still alive and well on the terraces.

Would you go back as a guest to a workplace you’d been sacked from Bill, even if you enjoyed the work?
I know I wouldn’t.
